I guess.. Ive been here when I was a kid (back in 1980 - when my family first migrated here to the US) not again till today and wow.. this airport is really clean, wide, very nice and with FREE WifI service. Boo! to Logan Airport (in Boston) for not having free Wifi.. it has with $7.00 fee.
The cleanest airport ive seen so far! Waiting for my connecting flight to SLK and happy to get connected thru internet!
Wow! This is the airport we first landed as an immigrants to this country! 28 years ago!!!

I actually flew Jet Blue from Boston to NYC (its like 30 mins on air then youll land already , total of 45 mins)then connecting to Salt Lake City later...damn ! got 1 hour to burn. I hope I am not getting the wrong impression? The whole JFK airport loooks like Terminal 5?

It's several different terminals.
Jet Blue and Delta have there own and AA shares with a few others.
But there are a few more than that.

Its my first time on Jet Blue too. I did not realized they have this Broadway Channel at the plane (aside from BRAVO, CNN, AE and whole cable channels )which previews upcoming Broadway shows.. They featured WINTUK and BILLY ELLIOT- too bad I have to land already at JFK before I finish the freaking show!

I haven't been to Terminal 5 yet but I've always admired the building itself. It's been vacant for a while until this past October when JetBlue moved in.
I think Terminal 5 might be the exception for terminals at JFK. I've flown in/out of most terminals there and almost all of them are not good at all, particularly 2 and 3.

I have yet to go there but the one here in Austin is pretty freaking fabulous. It's unnaturally clean and orderly, and theres a gazillion bookstores, cafes, and local shops.
VERY Austin.

It looks pretty nice. I saw a lot of press about the new Jet Blue Terminal when the national press was covering the opening of Indy's new airport. (Our old terminal has been completely shut down. Our new one is fantastic!) But back to the Jet Blue Terminal... Really who doesn't love the original Saarinen building? (The pic above is the Saarinen building.)

Yes, the new Jetblue Terminal at JFK is quite something. When I was in NYC in Sept, the terminal wasn't open yet. But, coming back from NYC today, it's open for business. It's so clean, large, ez to get around and tons of shopping and eateries.
The AIRTRAIN is so simple to get to from any of the JKF Terminals, and it takes you right to the E Subway line, which takes you right into NYC!

JFK is the old Idlewild Airport. The ride to midtown Manhattan would be at best an hour and usually 90 minutes. That's wasted time for me no matter how pretty the airport is. Who cares what it looks like.
So as for me, give me Newark Liberty or give me death. :) It's a great short ride via transit and comes in on 34th Street/crosstown huzzah!

Posted: 12/9/08 at 10:57amYes it is pretty(the international terminal is great) but after landing and sitting on the tarmack for an hour and a half in July when it was 99 degrees I avoid it like the plague, I use Newark and if I can't I use Philly, which is sometimes awful as well but it closer to me

It does not look like that anymore! They removed that Jetson like dome- and installed LCD monitors in a circular fashion going thru the length of the cafeteria ala Times Square. Its very modern! it will rival the modern look of Narita Airport in Japan. They have modern lounge chairs that looks like it was designed by Gaudi, not your grandparents waiting chairs at the airport. The cafeteria tables along the gates have LCD monitors for screen touch food service menu (if you want it deliver to your seats) All the waiting lounge chairs have outlets for your computer, iPhone, blackberry..they were clearly thinking of the new technology we have right now.
btw.. corrections on JetBlue Broadway channel- it was a preview shows after Times Talk on Channel 41 and its called , BroadwayAcross America (yeah-like the website) which previews all the broadway shows and touring company. It was nice to see all clips of touring shows like Frost/Nixon and Spring Awakening with Kyle Riabko, that we dont usually see because we so focus with the Broadway Cast. and after that~ the Las Vegas preview shows. It runs for a total of 45 mins..then it just keeps repeating... it includes behind the scenes, interview with the cast. I saw previews of LEGALLY BLONDE (with the touring cast- Elle-dont know her name?- she does looks like Reese Winterspoon, the only one i recognize was DB Bonds) ACL, The Wizard of OZ , Chitty Chitty Bang-Bang (that was a suprised?) The LION KING, Phantom of the Opera. (I did enjoy the preview of Phantom : Las Vegas Spectacular)which features a story on the Phantom Theater which was specifically built for the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas.
Barely did not get sleep last night. I am still on EST! but wow! Salt Lake City is very pretty. This is my first time here. I have not seen towering mountains before, not unlike Ive seen back in New England (NH & VT) the views are breath-taking!
Not to worry my friends..I have no plans to mormonize with the mormons!
The trip was planned 6 mos ago. Were driving today to Arches National Park then ski later...

Posted: 12/9/08 at 11:14amI guess it's changed since the last time I went through it. I had just gotten off a flight from Europe. I was jetlagged and exhausted. They made us get our luggage, climb two flights of stairs, walk down a long hallway and then descend two flights of stairs. I felt like I was on a Survivor episode.

That is the "infohalo" and is in the new part J*. There are elevated tunnels that connect to the old building on either end of the ticketing concourse. (You'd have to leave the secured area to visit it.) It will possibly be used for ticketing from what I have heard. If you fly back through JFK and have time to go through security again, I would recommend checking it out if you like architecture. They used that building when filming Catch me if You Can.

Posted: 12/9/08 at 12:54pmHey gothy, the cookie person, that accurately describes Minneapolis Saint Paul airport de-planing and getting out of the bloody thing. The airport has no consideration at all for anyone getting off the plane. However it is quite easy to get through the secret police lines into the joint.

Violet, the August before last I had to fly through JFK coming home from Europe, and that morning a small tornado had hit the airport (somewhere, I'm not sure exactly where). So we had to collect all of our luggage and re-check it. There were about 200 people trying to do this. And no air-conditioning in the entire airport.
Our flight was delayed about 4 hours and we were sweating like pigs. Then once they put us on the plane, we had to sit there hot as crap for another hour and a half.
Nightmare.
