I don't care if he's interesting BETWEEN songs. It's DURING them that's the problem.

I think he is great. And I play over and over that video I have of him from that Chess concert.

I believe he has a girlfriend. Something January or something to do with winter.

Well, I heard he LOVES Snowballs, but I don't think it has anything to do with a "girlfriend".

PEACE.

He was wonderful at the Chess concert, during and between the songs.

Classically trained does not and should not mean boring. Even when he sings classical/opera, there is nothing there.

Sarah Brightman on stage has ZERO stage presence and the stances she takes and the faces she makes are just laughable. Josh has amazing stage presence, is all over the stage and looks like he thoroughly enjoys being there. They are not even in the same league.

Rath, I couldn't agree with you more. I've used the phrase "nothing there" to describe more often than I can count. I guess with some performers, you either get it or you don't. With Josh, I don't.

re: JOSH GROBAN - Is he? Or Isn't he?

I love a beautiful voice, but there has to be something behind it. I'm classically trained, and I don't think I've ever been called boring whether I've been singing opera, pop, musical theater, or rock. The performance itself is as important as the voice.

re: JOSH GROBAN - Is he? Or Isn't he?

I'm not even necessarily talking about the visual performance here. I don't HEAR anything behind his voice either, which is an even more heinous crime.

Who knows...no one will ever know, really...but I would have to say straight. He does have a girlfriend named January - I met them both last year - she's gorgeous - and I didn't get any gay vibes from him at all.

re: JOSH GROBAN - Is he? Or Isn't he?

For me, there's no weight to his voice. No...that's not exactly what I'm trying to say. Perhaps it's there's no center to his voice. No...both. There's no weight and no center to his voice. It's perfectly lovely in some ways...but simply not thrilling (for me). Add to that his very safe, bland interprative style and I'm put right to sleep.

PS Someone I met who is on his tour told me that he lipsynchs a lot. Don't know if it's true though. Don't care. Still bored.

re: JOSH GROBAN - Is he? Or Isn't he?

Off on a bit of a tangent, I heard his song, "To Where You Are", sung in a room filled with 700 friends and family members of people who had died during the year and donated their organs for transplant. The music accompanied a slide show of photos of the people who had died. Just the thought of it still chokes me up.

re: JOSH GROBAN - Is he? Or Isn't he?

"And I play over and over that video I have of him from that Chess concert." Wait... I'm really ignorant about this... I knew he was in Chess (for a benefit concert, right?) but is it available to the public or did you see a bootleg video or something? I would love to see him in Chess (although I'm not that familar with it, but I can pretend)... I really like Josh Groban, his voice and his stage presence. Although he does look a little but awkward when he is singing sometimes, I think he delivers in concert very well.

As for him lipsynchs, I don't know about live or "live" concerts but there is no way that he lipsynchs for some of the televised things I've seen... he is off in some of the Award Shows and Late Night Shows, so he cant be lipsynching to a not-so-perfect track... at least thats my logic.

re: JOSH GROBAN - Is he? Or Isn't he?

He is really young though for his current celebrity. I have to agree that I thought his live performance was wonderful beginning, middle and end. He is not a throw-away howerver. Like some of the current talent these days. He is very approachable and loves his fans. Whenever he is interviewed, he mentions them. During his concerts, he is always acknowledging his fans. I see Josh Groban as a non-invasive but extremely talented young man that will find his permanant niche someday and blow everyone else out of the water. He will be around for a very long time. And I hope so. re: JOSH GROBAN - Is he? Or Isn't he?

'so he cant be lipsynching to a not-so-perfect track'

FASCINATING that you should say that. The person I spoke to (again, I have no idea if he's that trustworthy, but whatever) said that there were several different versions of his show...even ones that include 'mistakes' to make it seem more spontaneous. However, he also said that the powers that be are afraid of getting caught, so Groban is now singing more and more live...and having trouble sustaining a whole show.

AGAIN, this is from someone who toured with him, but who the hell knows if it's true or not.

re: JOSH GROBAN - Is he? Or Isn't he?

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet... but he's dating January Jones. She was in Love Actually and I think one of the American Pie movies. Anyway, he is not gay.

He doesn't lipsynch at his concerts... trust me, I was close enough to know, and I've noticed the change in his voice between his first two cds, and if he was lipsynching, then you would be able to tell. And plus, one of the concerts I went to, he was sick and you could tell when he talked and when he sang.

re: JOSH GROBAN - Is he? Or Isn't he?

Well...he wouldn't lipsynch to the actual albums as released. He would record fresh tracks...even tracks with mistakes.

As I've also said, he apparently has ceased to do this for fear of being 'outed' in the Ashlee Simpson sense of the world. And it's apparently causing some vocal problems for him.

re: JOSH GROBAN - Is he? Or Isn't he?

If he were lipsynching to mistake-ridden tracks... thats... well, the word deceitful comes to mind and its about all I can come up with. I'm still not 100% convinced that its lipsyncing though. This is going to sound horrible (and if any of my Groban friends saw this I'd be banned for life) but some of the televised stuff sounds horrible. I love Josh Groban to death (I almost cried when all my friends got his autograph and I didn't after a concert) but sometimes its painful (my reasoning to excuse him is that he gets nervous for tv performances). I can't see how a performer would willfully put out something that is actually hard to watch when he/she is trying to expand their audience. Mistake are one things... a wrong note here and there, but the notes I'm thinking about were noticeable (I completely tone deaf and I could not only tell, but cringed)

As for his concerts, the best defense I can come up with is I could hear him taking breaths before his sang... thats all I've got, folks.

Wow, I cant believe I wrote that long of a message defending Josh (or at least my idea of Josh) by attacking him... I'm pathetic.

I don't hink he needs to worry too much about expanding his audiences. They muliply every year. And.. ( I know this comment will start some nastyness) every time he is on Oprah singing anything his record sales go thru the roof. He is also one of the most requested live acts by venues and promoters according to Billboard.

re: JOSH GROBAN - Is he? Or Isn't he?

I am a Grobanite... love Josh, but I hope he rests his voice after his tour becuase he has been singing a lot.

oh btw, this is Josh and January Jones at the Oscar. They have been together a while now, and he says that he usually doesn't dedicate songs to her becuase she knows that he is singing every song to her... I thought that was sweet!

re: JOSH GROBAN - Is he? Or Isn't he?

DAME, I dont think he needs to worry about expanding his fanbase either. I mean, the guy could sneeze on a CD and I would buy it and recommend it to everyone I know... but I would assume that is what the tv appearances are for... well, that and to appease his existing fanbase.

And korenglish, what he said was very sweet... what would have been better is if he said it about me.... Here's to dreaming!
