Looks pretty cool! So far I'm intrigued.

I've been intrigued for years, so glad to finally get a good look at it.
Definitely excited.

Congrats to those people who actually got the Apple Trailer website to work. Anyway, I am thankful there's a trailer, because at least it's something freaking concrete. I've been hearing fanboys wet themselves over this movie for so long now I feel like it should have been released at least 3 times already. At this point I mostly want to get it over with.
And I say this as a certified sci-fi dweeb. I could have been excited about this movie if I didn't have to hear about it all. The. Freaking. Time. And if, you know, it promised an actual good story and characterization and not just the KEWLEST TECHNOLOGY EVAR. I'm sorry, but the plot sounds like a total cliché.
Okay, rant over. Honestly, I hope once I get to see the trailer it's beautiful and awesome and makes me want to see the movie...a state I vaguely remember being in when I first heard about it.
It's not what I thought it was going to be, afer the hype, Com Con and the emails about free preview screening ( well 15 minutes worth ) that took place in Australia today.
I was a little disapointed, so I think the best way to deal with this, is not watch or read anything else. I still plan on being there opening morning.
It just looks like a big CGI-fest. There's nothing really to catch my interest so far (other than James Cameron returning to sci-fi).
Watched the trailer and it looks like two very different films rolled into one. From the trailer alone I vote: CRAP
This may make me sound like a complete idiot but could someone explain in simple terms what this movie is supposed to be about? Because so far I don't understand. lol
Most see this as just another FX sci fi movie shot in 3-D. James Cameron has been working on this for years(since at least the time of T2)Technology was not up to date by his standards or vision for him to tell the story.I read an article about a year ago detailing the plot and it was pretty deep and fascinating,in my opinion.I think this film will take everyone by surprise.I have heard that the trailer really does not do it justice. This film promises to have a look and feel like no other.
"So what is the storyline?
It focuses on Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, who took one of the lead roles in this summer's Terminator 4, on Cameron's recommendation.
Jake is a former Marine who is confined to a wheelchair following a war on Earth. He is selected to take part in the Avatar program - where his mind will control a healthy body on a remote world - and sent to Pandora, a rainforest-covered moon with a mix of beautiful and terrifying creatures, known as the Na'vi.
These are sentient, humanoid beings, considered primitive by humans - but this turns out to be a grave misjudgment once humans decide to savagely claim the world as their own.
Meanwhile, Jake has to decide where his allegiances lie in a battle which will decide the fate of the two planets."

Is it based on anything? Cartoon, book etc or is it completely original?
I feel like I've heard of it before...but if it's been talked about for 15 years...that would explain it.
I'm really interested to see this new technology, definitely sounds like an experience and a half! Not blown away by the trailer, it would have been better to slowly build the film up starting with short glances...really build on the hype, the way its been done just makes it look like another CGI fantasy.
As far as I know,it's original.James Cameron wrote the story based on a idea of his. Hey,how about that! A film that it not a remake, based on a game or toy or comic book or TV show/sitcom. Aint it Cool had an article where a very rough cut was shown and it went over very well. The studio is behind the film which means we should expect them to promote the hell out of it.Hyping it will generate interest and create buzz. However, if the film is weak, boring, silly,or just not good, those hyping it will lose big time in the end.It should also be noted that This is NOT Cameron's first film since Titanic.I keep reading these reports where they make it sound like he has done nothing since 1997.He has directed films for IMAX including a documentary about Titanic and produced projects. He has been working on this for a long time and Cameron is a perfectionist.Judging by his track record (T2,The Abyss,True Lies,Titanic)I will go see this.He knows how to entertain and he is one of the few who can make going to the movies a real treat.
I would rather see James Cameron's Aquaman

Thanks romantico :) the idea makes much more sense now. Actually it sounds pretty cool, most of the books/movies I like are sci-fi/fantasy so I'm sure I'll see it, especially given the hype.
Wasn't the reason this movie has taken so long to be developed the fact that technology just wasn't able to deliver the ideal results until now? I appreciate the idea, but I kind of wish they'd waited ten more years or so, because the CGI still just doesn't cut it, in my book.
Did anyone get to go to the IMAX or 3D cinema Avatar day that was today?

Terminator: Salvation. Thank GOD that we don't have to sit through another one of McG's abortions with Halycon going bankrupt. Now hopefully someone with integrity can save a franchise.
Sorry about going off topic.

Watching the trailer on Apple, I thought the CGI looked terrible and too much of a cartoon. True, the movie is basically a cartoon anyway. However, seeing it on IMAX 3D, I was blown away.
You were just absorbed into their world. I did not see any gimmicky effects (like things being jabbed towards the audience) but you just believed that everything was real. There was depth in the creatures' eyes. When the preview ended, I wanted to see more.
Wildcard, that sounds amazing.
