"Kevin Smith to follow as guest critic while Ebert recovers

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- Jay Leno will step into the critic's chair next week as he takes on guest co-hosting duties for "Ebert & Roeper."

The host of NBC's "Tonight Show" will be the first guest co-host for the syndicated movie review show while regular co-host Roger Ebert recuperates at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago after cancer surgery last month."

I remember after Siskel died, they had the rotating list of guest critics for a while. It was the first time I ever saw Harry Knowles. As they started the show in silhouette, I thought, "What the heck is THAT sitting next to Ebert?"

Would you rather have Beyonce Knowles?

(actually, yes)

I just wish they'd get rid of "the other guy."

Can't. Stand. Him.

Proves the old adage, "everybody's a critic."

Kevin will be great -- just hope it's not distracting him from making his next movie - whatever that may be.

It'll be interesting to see Kevin critique films considering he can't handle anyone criticizing himself.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

Just heard the podcast of this week's show and Leno did well, I thought.

What they thought about the movies:

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Rocky Bobby - Thumbs up from both Roeper & Leno
Miami Vice - Mild Thumbs up from Roeper - Thumbs Down from Leno
Little Miss Sunshine - Big thumbs up from both Roeper & Leno
Shadowboxer - Thumbs Down from Roeper - Thumbs up from Leno (Biggest Disagreement)
The Night Listener - Big thumbs up from both Roeper & Leno

John Ridley (Author of STRAY DOGS and its movie adaptation U-TURN, as well as getting his screenplay for THREE KINGS stolen by David O. Russell) replaced Ebert this week and was AWESOME! Anyone else remember his movie review show a few months back called MOVIE CLUB WITH JOHN RIDLEY? It ruled!
