Jennifer Saunders quits acting...NOOOOO!

From Movie & TV news on IMDB.com:

"British comedienne Jennifer Saunders is ditching her acting career for good because she is exhausted by the grueling lifestyle. The 47-year-old Absolutely Fabulous star is keen to continue writing and directing, but she refuses to write another series of the cult TV comedy - insisting she is too old to play flamboyant fashionista Edina Monsoon. Saunders says, 'The 6am calls to go to make-up and all the promotional work wear you down. I would like to write and direct - that would be my joy.'"

This is very sad. AB FAB is one of the most hysterical shows on television today and it's very upsetting that she won't be writing or performing in any more of them. I was hoping that there would be an AB FAB movie but I guess that won't be happening either. Ah well...I'm sure she'll make a killer director.

And that's why SHE gets to decide when to stop - and NO ONE gets to make the decision but her - and NO ONE should question the why of it at all.

I'm not questioning her decision - I adore her, and want her to do what she wants - but it's a little tasteless to make this announcement to us "little people" about how hard her life is. Most people work at least as hard and don't go home to mansions and yachts.

I think it's a very slippery slope to make judgements based on an opinion of a life that you know nothing about. The reality is, the things that link us as human beings - the things that really matter - have nothing to do with materialistic quantification. Her rational and sensible evaluation of HER life shouldn't have anything to do with what outsiders THINK her life is comprised of.

I hate to say it, but maybe it's for the best there won't be any more AB FAB episodes...the first three seasons were genius, but the last few were pretty unwatchable (she just kept repeating the same jokes over and over).

All I'm saying is perhaps she needn't have been quite so detailed. No one wants to hear how tough her life as an actress making millions of dollars and having millions of people adore her was. All she had to say was that she was focusing on writing and directing now. That's all we needed to know.

I'm not sure we needed to know anything - but in a culture where so much emphasis is given to what these people poop - much less what they think or feel - I give her credit for expressing reality as it relates to her.

I was giving you credit where it's due, Rathnait. I applauded the teeny bit of self-knowledge you exhbited of yourself in acknowledging that you are indeed a little person.

Now, back to the subject, if you'd step aside please, sir. Oh, I'm sorry, madame.

Fellow AbFabzians, I wouldn't get too worked up. Jennifer's done several final episodes and final seasons of the show thus far. I'm sure she has at least ONE more production in her. Just give her the chance to see some new trends in technology she can mock.

Was there a longer article that I can read, the one where she whines to the little people? All I read on this post is that the early calls and the promotional work are bringing her down.

Aw, I love her! I was obsessed with Ab Fab when I was in middle school, and now that the DVDs are coming out, I'm getting obsessed again.

I'm sad that she's decided to stop acting, but at least it's her decision. I only wish some other actresses out there would take the hint.

If she does decide to keep on writing, I hope that perhaps she'll expand on Mirrorball, but then I can't really picture it with another actress as Vivienne.

Oh well. Good for her though...

"Is" should be replaced by "was". Ab Fab is in syndication and are all re-runs. Jennifer's work will always be there, Ab Fab has DVD's as well.

"No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one."
