Thank you Dame! Jezebel is 6.5 yrs. old. I've had her since she's about 3 months. The African Greys often live longer than 50 years so I've got to make some sort of provisions for her in my will.

Philly, many species of parrots learn to talk quite easily. However, African Greys have the highest degree of intelligence which is that of a five year old child. there's no "teaching them to talk." If they hear something one time, and they like it, they'll repeat it. Conversely, if you try to get them to say a specific word and you say it over and over again, they won't say it if they don't like it.
There has been much research and many books written about the ability of a Grey to reason, and distinguish what they're talking about. There was Alex, the famous Grey, who died a few years ago and was the prime life force for Dr. Irene Pepperberg.
There are tons of videos on youtube of parrots talking, singing, and doing ticks. Besides Alex, there's an adorable genius named Einstein who is still around, and performs at shows.
Owning a Grey is a lot of commitment. It's not jut having a bird in a cage. They're so intelligent and sensitive that you must stimulate them constantly. They're messy and just like a five year old child. And I love all the care it takes to make Jezzie happy and healthy!
