I just watched about a half an hour of the debate. Watching John McCain while Obama is speaking is almost scary. He keeps trying to look like he's listening but he's continually looking down at notes and blinking a thousand times. I'm almost embarassed for him, he looks ridiculous.
Yeah, I've rarely seen Obama write anything down- I guess he has a better short term memory!
Does he have an infection in his cheeks? His cheeks are bloated but it looks like he just had dental surgery.
That's from the skin cancer scarring. That's why he's usually photographed on his "best" side.
Yeah, he pretty much freaked me out last night as well.
No getting around the fact: it's uncomfortable to watch him on a tv screen, whether meandering around a stage or "at home", per in-his-tank specialist, Kelly O'Donnell, "seated," the man so happy to be on MEET THE PRESS a hundred times. (Memo to that man: put your VP candidate there, if it's such a great venue to share your experience, strength and hope.)
He seemed especially pasty and agitated last night, flashing the tightly controlled faux grin, blinking like those deer-ish aliens in CLOSE ENCOUNTERS trying to communicate with Truffaut. It's not his fault he's so physically unappealing; it is decidedly in his control to resist sneering and demonstrating palpable disgust.
He doesn't come off as a nice man. Surely that's not his goal.
All the pundits said that the split-screen hurt McCain. He clearly can't control his non-verbals, and his anger was visible last night. The contrast in demeanor between the two of them last night was startling.
His friggin blinking drives me crazy! When he starts speaking-zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
WTF!? Autism? Trig has Down's syndrome. What the hell is wrong with McCain?

Trig does have downs Syndrome. He does not have Autism. A more cynical person might think McCain mentioned the two together because Autism is a much more common disease that effects something like 100 times as many people.

Yeah as already mentioned, that split screen did wonders for Obama and IMO totally screwed McCain. His anger and condesceding facial expressions just showed that even though he's 20+ years Obama's senior he's just a bitter and frankly immature individual who wants to bring those same qualities to the white house for 4 years.
OK, WTF is up with that picture?
Hilarious!
That pic is priceless. It was from right after the debate when both candidates whent to shake hands with the moderator, and McCain didn't know whether to go to his right or his left, and got himself all confused (isn't that a surprise). It was hysterical to watch it happen on TV, but this picture truly captures the tone of the entire evening.
The tongue sticking out is freaking cracking me up!

I thought McCain did a great job last night. "That one" just looked flat, aloof and cold next to McCain's passionate and sincere concern for the future of our country.
" flat, aloof " I think he was scared McCain was having a stroke.
Haven't I seen galinda's post somewhere else? Oh yeah, in the other thread.
Still laughing at that picture!

I don't know what it is about some folks thinking McCain did well last night, it's like they're wearing beer goggles. They're willing to hookup with the ugly girl at the end of the bar (McCain) cuz they had one too many shots. A la Stephen Lynch: "Trying to Drink You Pretty".
While I do respect other's opinions and perceptions, sometimes it just feels like we're watching 2 different things on the same channel.
I totally agree with that killertofu
Martin Short commented on his being, shall we say, un age certain, on Letterman: "The only time he doesn't have to pee is when he's peeing..."
