I have heard good things about taking classes at John Robert Powers... have any of you taken classes there? How much is it? Is it worth it? Please let me know!
Thanks,
Sarah
I've always kind of thought it was a scam agency because I know really untalented people that got in that are never going to contribute anything to the performance world.
Its a scam! I auditioned for them, you have to take $5000 dollar classes just to get in, and you aren't garenteed anything. THey just want ur money
Forget Spamalot, just call them Scam-A-Lot.
Unlike other SCAM "agencies" (which are not agencies at all. You NEVER should have to pay a legit agent up front. EVER! They only get 10% of work they get you. That's it.), JOHN ROBERT POWERS is more of an acting and modeling school.
They take you to IMTA in New York/LA if you are good enough, which is a legit place to be discovered by legit agents.
However, you are better off taking private lessons or getting lessons from independent acting schools. Better yet - just major in drama at college.
I was a student of John Robert Powers. I paid $2,500 for a one year contract which allowed me to take four classes in total. I only ever auditioned for one film (HOLES) from them, however I did have opportunities to audition for other films/commercials. I auditioned for a legit child actor agency and they said they wanted to see me again in six months.
The problem with the school is that they are too expensive for what they give you. Therefore, you could call it a scam.
Don't sign up with them. Take your money and find a independent training classes from legit coaches.

Ok wow thanks for letting me know guys! : )
I agree with everyone else who has posted. I was signed with them about a year ago and within the first week of classes, I knew I had been scammed. We were spending thousands to sit in a classroom and read rip-off scripts from Boston Public and random Disney channel shows. I stopped attending about 2 months into it and would warn everyone to STAY AWAY!

I know parents who shelled out thousands of dollars to have their 10 year old daughters take modeling classes there - basically they learn how to move like a runway model - in other words, how to walk like a slut.

There's a reason why they advertise in the back of teen magazines.
Hm AMDA and John Robert Powers should team up.
HAH.

Powers is a waste of money if what you want to do is to study acting or theatre. Are you in college? If you live in a city of a reasonable size, there should be acting classes you can take at any number of theatre companies or acting schools. Don't waste your money on places like Powers.
