"Back in October of last year, word around the campfire was that Johnny Depp was aggressively pursuing his Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides director Rob Marshall to helm a contemporary re-make of The Thin Man (1934). The film would feature Depp in the lead role of Nick Charles, a hard-boiled ex-private eye who solves crimes with his wealthy socialite wife.
It has recently been announced that the project now has an attached screenwriter. Jerry Stahl (Moonlighting, CSI) will write the script, but the director’s chair is still yet to be filled. However, Rob Marshall remains the frontrunner for the position.
The Thin Man, written in 1934, was the last novel penned by master of hard-boiled crime Dashiell Hammett. Although the novel was written as a stand-alone story, it was adapted into a series of films during the ’30s and ’40s starring William Powell and Myrna Loy as the witty crime-solving couple Nick and Nora Charles."

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
