I'd say that Johnny Depp is the greatest film actor of his generation. There's no one who can touch him for sheer brilliance. His work has encompassed some wild flights of fancy (Jack Sparrow, Willy Wonka) and some beautifully controlled underplaying (Gilbert Grape and yes, his magnificent Sweeney Todd).
Any films he makes become essential viewing simply by virtue of his presence in them.
There. I said it.
