Okay, some of you might reply like this...
"Well, at least you're not writing a ___ page report!"
...but I'm pissed.
My Journalism teacher just assigned a 5 to 7 page Wait Until Dark movie review to be completed in class.
Am I happy?
Nope.
And the review has to include...
The Story (200 words)
The Setting (200 words)
The Cast (150 words)
The Characters (300 words)
The Dialogue (200 words)
The Photography (150 words)
The Sound Effects (200 words)
The Directing (200 words)
The General Effect (200 words)
Basically, I have to write a review that's about 2,000 words long. The same thing will happen next quarter. (She said the next movie will be a musical, most likely Fiddler, which is a relief)
Gahhhhh. This is so bad.
Also, in December, for English, I have to start reading the first core novel of the year--A Christmas Carol. So, I have to juggle the novel and the review.
Could this class get any worse?
Be happy that it's not assigned as homework.
I accidentally stumbled onto the student board, but I couldn't help seeing this thread.
Let me give you the same warning as I give everyone else:
If you are considering journalism as a career, DON'T! Run now, while you still can!
A side note -- How old is this teacher? A 2,000-word review? Virtually nothing in any newspaper anywhere is 2,000 words anymore, especially not a movie review. If I turn in stuff much more than 1,000 words, the editors will hack it mercilessly.
2000 word review? Please. Most papers give movie reviews 200 words total.
