An e-mail received from a usually very reliable Judy source -
"Judy Garland is to be moved from her current resting place and interred in a place of Honor in Hollywood at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery very soon."
no confirmation or denial as of yet

Posted: 5/14/05 at 11:21pmWow, a friend took me upstate to pay my repects when I first moved to NYC in 1975. Seems that they should leave her be and maybe build a museum in Hollywood to pay tribute.

She's resting in upstate New York.
If my memory serves it is Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY.

Posted: 5/15/05 at 7:40pmI thought Judge Judy was moving. She's the only Judy I think of, when I read the name Judy.

Posted: 5/15/05 at 8:06pmHartsdale is not upstate (sorry, westchester bias). The cemetary is a couple minutes away from my house and next to a lot of my friends houses. I think Babe Ruth was also cremated there.

Posted: 5/15/05 at 8:08pmThis is sad. I always have wondered, if the Greatest Entertainer of the 20th century would of lived longer, what would she have done. Would she have done Driving Miss Daisy or done some Broadway....She would be in her eighties now....Hell, Mickey Rooney is still alive........Oh Miss Garland..Sad , Sad Sad!!!!!!

False.
According to John Fricke, the most reliable of the Garland historians: "Before everyone gets up in arms (happily or un-), it
should be stated that this is a total rumor, which has been circulating for months. This is NOT fact."
Fricke is the author of 2 excellent books Garland books, 2 on Oz and many liner notes, as well as the producer or writer of the A&E and Great Performers Garland documentaries.

Shame on you, CM2 ...

CM2 likes to be contrarian when it somes to icons. See his anti-Hepburn thread last week.

Posted: 5/16/05 at 11:44amNot to jack, but Fricke is a nice guy and yes, he is the ultimate Garland expert. His lovely and sweet partner, who, sadly, died years ago of AIDS, hired me for my very first Broadway office job.

Posted: 5/16/05 at 11:48amI second BabyGiraffe when I say that Hartsdale is NOT upstate. I went to college in Ithaca, NY...now *that* is upstate. If you want to stretch it, you could say that Rockland country is upstate, but certainly not Westchester county. Thank you.

Proof that CM2 is telling the truth when he says he is only mostly gay

Posted: 5/16/05 at 11:49amIt's "upstate" to those of us in NYC. My friends live in Kingston and I even refer to that as "upstate."

Posted: 5/16/05 at 11:49amI'm not being contrary. I do think of Judge Judy when I hear or read the name Judy. Not Garland. I'm not the fan that most here are. I don't dislike her, though. She's just not somebody I ever spent much time thinking about. She played no role in my formative years. I never even saw The Wizard of Oz until I was an adult. I'll have to ask my parents about that.

Posted: 5/16/05 at 11:58amI shudder to think about not having Judy Garland in my life during my formative years! Seems you turned out well anyway, CM2...

Okay, BT--and others followers of Judy-ism lurking in this thread. (Calling Glebb and AndyHardy!)
True confessions time: How many times have you actually been to Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale to visit Judy's grave?
(Doesn't count if you went to see Joan Crawford's grave and stopped off at Judy's.)
PalJoey: twice.

BT, how do I seem to have turned out well? And I, obviously, have never been to her grave.

I only visited Judy at Ferncliff once.
Dang, I didn't know Joan was there as well.
I could have stomped on her grave for Bette Davis (just kidding)!
Sorry AndyHardy but I'm going to tell this story.
The first time AH came to my apt he saw the big pink Judy book on my shelf and knew it was ok to be more than my friend.
