I imagine the casting director would be well versed in NY actors, and say 'Julia would be perfect for this part!' etc., then call them up to see if they're interested. But maybe not.

On the audio commentary, Michael Patrick King makes a point of mentioning that Julia's a talented Broadway actress.

I got the complete series box set of SatC as a gift last Christmas, but there are no extras whatsoever. (Plus my friend brought it back from London, so it only works on the computer.)

Yes she would have. The Funny Girl, Chess and Pippin benefits had all happened by the time the commentary was recorded and released. She had also done her time with the MTC. Not quite 'Broadway', but still a theatre name by then. I'm not making an audio recording of M.P. King saying that, too! I've done enough for you people tonight! All I'm sayin' is I heard what I heard. Rent it yourself. *smirk*
Ellie, the commentaries and other extras are great! Especially for the 6th season - there's oodles of commentaries, as well as making-of features and a panel interview with the 4 leads that I haven't gotten around to watching yet. If you're gonna invest in buying or renting one season, making it the sixth (parts uno and dos).

I haven't really been following this thread for a while, but my cds FINALLY came, and Julia's song is one of my favorites on the Hair cd. 
She's fantastic in Wild Party! I really need to listen and actually pay attention now...I LOVE her voice.

Julia's agent was tossing her around a lot during like... 2002-2004 with bit parts on TV shows here and there (she's on episodes of "Law and Order: SVU" and "Law and Order: Criminal Intent" as well) --
But yeah... you guys all know about Julia's... VOICE OVERS on the SPICE Channel, right?? :) haha
in one of her live concerts (at... Ars Nova maybe? probably the Birdland too), she talked about doing the introduction voiceovers for the "rent-by-the-hour" Spice Channel, haha, saying stuff like: [not appropriate for young ears!]
