I find this hard to believe: a Colorado district attorney is reducing a hit & run from a felony to a misdemeanor, because the defendant is a money manager at Merrill, and a felony might hinder his ability to ean a living.

Many judges in this country are not playing with a full deck. Decisions like these only prove this statement.

Roxy...please note the difference between DISTRICT ATTORNEY and JUDGE. Since it was a District Attorney who made this decision and not a Judge.

Not just any DA - this is not Mr. Hurlbert's first time in the spotlight:

"Mark Hurlbert, the Eagle County prosecutor who charged the basketball star Kobe Bryant with sexual assault, was narrowly elected to another term. Mr. Hurlbert, a Republican, won 18,893 votes, or 52 percent, and his Democratic opponent, Bruce Brown had 17,687 votes, or 48 percent. Mr. Hurlbert dropped the sexual assault charge against Mr. Bryant on Sept. 1. Mr. Brown had said the case exposed inadequacies in Mr. Hurlbert's trial and management skills; Mr. Hurlbert said it was difficult for a small office to prosecute such a big case." - from the NYTimes, 2004.

Mr. Hurlbert was originally appointed by Republican governor Bill Owens in 2002, and then narrowly elected to the position in 2004 after the Kobe debacle.
