No, really.
An new book, "The Architect: Karl Rove and the Master Plan for Absolute Power," reveals that Rove's stepfather pretended to be his father, then divorced his mother and lived the rest of his life as an openly gay man in Southern California, with longtime friend Joseph Koons, who had been openly gay for years and spoke to the authors in detail:
"In the book, Koons recounts how he and the elder Rove began to cruise the scene in Palm Springs, looking to make friends with older gay men, eventually forming a social club they dubbed the 'Old Farts Club.'
'The men met every Friday, usually at the Rainbow Cactus Restaurant or the Martinie Burger, to eat, drink, and socialize,' the book says.
[The authors] raise speculation as to whether the suicide of Rove's mother, Reba, may have been aggravated by shame she felt over Louis' homosexuality.
A man of almost startling intelligence, Rove is not likely to have ignored the possibility that his father's homosexuality might have figured in his mother choice to end her own life,' the authors write."

So is Karl's gay-baiting revenge on his gay/bisexual father for causing the suicide of his mother?
If anything, his stepfather's bi/homosexuality was the CATALYST for his mother's suicide, not its CAUSE.
Maybe someone should send Karl the thread I started about Bisexuality. It may comfort him & help he resolve those feelings he has been surpressing for years.
Shhhhh! Not so loud! If gay parenting produced that demon spawn, it would definitely be an case against our cause.
"So is Karl's gay-baiting revenge on his gay/bisexual father for causing the suicide of his mother?"
how utterly and completely inappropriate.
"have you no decency, sir? at long last, have you left no sense of decency?"
How is that inappropriate: He hates his gay father for what he perceives to be the ruination of his mother, and so he vows revenge on ALL gay people.
PJ, you're making assumptions. Dangerous territory.
And not-gay-but-still-kinda-dykey people, like Ann Richards.

The Rainbow Cactus?
And so goes the myth of Gay Good Taste.
um, why is this important?
from the book:
he drank and socialized at the rainbow cactus and the martini burger and became part of a group of gay men who referred to themselves as "the old farts club." according to his close friend of many years, retired insurance executive joseph koons, louis rove was one of the best people he knew and that both louis and his son karl were comfortable with the father's sexual orientation. although karl lovingly accepted his father as a gay man and treated louis' gay associates with respect, louis rove's death was a private matter. his friends knew nothing of a memorial service and no death notice was published in the palm springs newspaper.
Regardless of the hows, the whys, the whatevers, I am always stricken with a bit of disbelief when a man like Karl Rove, who does help shape policy that is exclusionary for homosexual, is said to be "accepting of his father's sexuality."
That's akin to saying, "I understand my dad's an alcoholic and I love him anyway but he needs help."
Don't need no help, thanks.
it's important because tbis man has made it his mission to use Americans' fear of gays to try to win elections at the expense of gays.
this information sheds possible light on his motivations or hypocrisy in the same way other gay bashers' gay parents or children paint an interesting picture.
well if the book is wrong about that how can its other allegations be accepted?
Just fascinating that he could have that relationship with his father and still be the politician most destructive and vindictive toward lesbians and gay men since Joe McCarthy and J. Edgar Hoover.

In their new book, "The Architect: Karl Rove and the Master Plan for Absolute Power," James Moore and Wayne Slater say some believe Louis' running off contributed to Reba's suicide. Nevertheless, Karl visited his stepfather in Palm Springs at least twice a year and often shared dinner with Louis and his pals, according to the book.
"He lived life exactly the way he wanted to live it," Rove said of Louis, who died two years ago. Louis' friend Joseph Koons said that although Louis "was never the effeminate type," he "didn't hide the fact that he was gay."
Slater tells us that Rove, who obtained an early galley of the Crown book, had an intermediary press the authors to leave out the section about his father. "We told him we have a couple of sources on that," says Slater. "We haven't heard anything since."
Slater says Rove himself called daily — "one day, six times" — to lobby against a chapter about his connection with indicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff. The book quotes Marc Schwartz, an operative for Texas' Tigua Indian tribe, as witnessing a scene where Rove walked up to Abramoff's limo a few blocks from the White House. Schwartz says Abramoff explained that Rove arranged the sidewalk pow-wow to avoid entering a visit or phone calls in White House logs, and besides, "he's a fat f—, and he can use the exercise."
he's a fat f—, and he can use the exercise.
Perhaps it's a stretch, but to me this may shed more light on "Cub" reporter Gannon, aka "go, Jeff" whom I still believe to be the inamorata/o of Karl.
There is more to Karl Rove's story than even this book will reveal.
MUCH MORE.
