Don't get them at Yonah Schimmel's--the world's most famous knish store on the Lower East Side. I saw a roach crawl out of one (on my very last visit, not quite so coincidentally.)

It's a shame that the only knishes most NYC tourists have ever experienced are those deep fried monstrosities sold by the hot dog vendors ont he sidewalk.
A real knish is baked, not fried.
