Let's be clear on something else.

This was not a prank.

Calling it a prank is a sleight-of-hand to disguise the gravity of the situation.

This was invasion of privacy.

The DJ's may have intended it to be a prank but there was a point very early in that telephone call where it stopped being a prank and became invasion of privacy. The DJ's could have terminated the call before that happened. Instead they persevered with the call and sought to obtain information they had no legal right to.

How would you feel if your medical records were broadcast against your will? And how would you feel about the person who broadcast them? There is legal protection in the UK to prevent this happening.

Haven't weighed in cos i think there r more details.
One of the things that should have been obvious to this nurse is- pretty standard practice. ALL calls relating to public pesonalities r done thru Media Relations. U cannot even acknowledge some one IS a pt. ( OK in this case public knowledge)
BUT not the unit. SWITCHBOARD failed here. The after hrs timing should have been a clue. The nurse who spoke gave out pretty general deets. I can usually say the pt is stable at this point in time. I can also inquire who this is asking ie what relationship- friend family.
The RN who died. I am strictly hypothisizing here, sounds like she had only been practising in the UK for 9 years. I don't know if she practised in India or for how long. But @ 46 IF she trained UK that would mean she had to come into the profession much later w a lot of time & $$ sacrifices w the hope of a decent job w prospects after. I'm gonna guess she was also helping family back in India. Just about every immigrant in nursing i know does. So it may have been just TOO MUCH 4 her after all the work & sacrifice to be seen as a screw up- w now limited job prospects & tho the hospital SAYS it was supporting her, my experience is NOT SO MUCH. Hospitals throw there staff under a bus in a fricking Heart beat. Nd PJ- I thibnk u r totally spot on re the Diana thing.
