That is kinda creepy. Why don't you respond?

re: Kinda creepy...

Wow that is sorta...strange. Uh I guess that you could contact the lust interest(?) and I would forget about the preist. The Diocese of wherever would only spend all of my weekly church offering to cover it up anyways (only SLIGHTLY disgusted by/with the RCC)

re: Kinda creepy...

Personally - I believe it's nobody's business if a priest is using personal ads...
"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

re: Kinda creepy...

Play dumb and answer the ad. Curiosity and all that. The come back and tell us what happened.

What's the worst that could happen?

Its his "damnation", not yours.

Oh, and answer the Lost Lust one too, but that result is private.

re: Kinda creepy...

What would you do if you came across a personal ad for somebody that you knew was in a current relationship?

You'd probably keep quiet about it.

He's in a relationship with God.

Same situation.

I'd keep quiet, unless a minor was involved.

re: Kinda creepy...

I went on a couple of dates with a priest (yes, Roman Catholic). He was on leave from the church at the time, and deciding if he wanted to continue. That could be the case here as well.

What a delicious dilemma!

God would know, right? I mean unlike a human wife, God is Omnipotent-- he should know if a priest was cheating, right? I guess I'd leave it up to God to decide what to do.

Just curious. How did you know the guy in the ad was a priest?

re: Kinda creepy...

Obviously, I could just leave this well enough alone. BUT, it might not be a bad idea just to throw out there so people are aware it happens - not that it would be much of a surprise to most.

I had affairs with Roman Catholic priests all of my adult life - and a couple when I was a late teenager (VERY consensual, mind you.) They were always some of the most intelligent, charming, aware, talented people I knew. And I can't say that the fear of the forbidden didn't add a certain dimension to our relationships.

Finally, though, I had to walk away from all of them - and truthfully, for good - because I couldn't handle the hypocricy any longer. When I would ask them how they could represent the judgement against that which they were, they would invariably say that THEY didn't judge, and THEY didn't condemn. And I always was left with the fact that they REPRESENTED that which did.

I don't regret any of those involvements. I grew up with that church, and know full well that they're just human beings living out a particular brand of social service. But I also pity them somewhat, because they never got to know what it's like to live a fully actualized honest life - and that's a sin.

re: Kinda creepy...

That's an eye-opener for me, at least, DGrant. When you say 'so people are aware it happens' do you mean that it's not uncommon, or just that it has happened?

Forget about the priests. I know some hot argentinian rabbis if you're interested. Latin and jewish!

Beaverhausen,

Just ask W.W.E.D. (What Would Edie Do...girl, I'm a fan of Edie's from WAAAAAAAAAY back when she started at BARRACUDA).

Anywho, I think, in the end, the creepiness you're feeling is really just your stuff for you to figure out. Somehow, this man has made some sort of piece with his relationship to God and the Church and his sexuality. I went to Catholic school, and the music teacher there was a Christian Brother who was gay. He was (is) a wonderful man with whom I unfortunately lost touch (no...we never had a 'relationship'...just a loving friendship). Never bothered me.

Ellie - I would never presume to speak for anyone else, but I can say with all honesty that active gay men in the priesthood was far from an unusual thing, in my experience.

For those interested, there was a pretty good Canadian film called Priest, starring Linus Roache and Tom Wilkinson and Robert Carlyle, that addresses this issue.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110889/

And Robbie - I agree that they have found their peace with their God - but they're still representing that which is condemning of their own lifestyle.

Thanks DGrant. Did you ever feel like 'the other woman' so to speak? I hope I'm not prying! Pretend I don't exist if I am!

re: Kinda creepy...

Ellie - actually, no, because I never intended the relationships to be anything but fun, anyway. Honestly, I liked the fact that ultimately, they were unavailable - and I always had the weekends free re: Kinda creepy...

re: Kinda creepy...

Don't you just hate it when a priest falls prey to being human?

I would hope my response would be to say a prayer for him, that he find comfort and reconcile his relationship to his God. And to acknowledge that the wheels of change turn SO very slowing within some institutions, sometimes over hundreds of years. Because in the end, they are just man made insitutions. And to pray that some day other priest won't need to be conflicted by any taint of hypocrisy. You know...for being mere humans.

Rest in peace, Iflitifloat.

Beaver, it is not your place to do anything. I have several good friends who are priests, and while I am confused how they can keep their faith, yet be gay is beyond me. It's none of my, or your business.
