What does it say about me that I've never seen this movie -- or the musical, for that matter.
Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiae
Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra
Salve, Salve Regina
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
O clemens O pia
Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra

Ad te clamamus exsules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
O clemens O pia

It's not shown very often actually. It's never been on dvd before.
I'm sure a lot of people haven't seen it.

I like the original title "El beso de la mujer araña." The English translation is exactly word for word, but I like saying it in Spanish.
Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiae
Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra
Salve, Salve Regina
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

Well, Latinos come in all shades, especially in South America (i.e. Argentina, Uruguay) where many are fair-skinned and blue-/green-eyed (due to massive European ancestry), so it's not too far-fetched.

I know.. I know.. I've heard that argument before. Just like Sigourney Weaver gets away with being "Latina" in DEATH AND THE MAIDEN.
For me, at a certain point, it just gets old.
I suppose I shouldn't complain. It is a miracle they cast Julia over John Travolta.

Remember THE HOUSE OF THE SPIRITS? That had Glenn Close, Meryl Streep, Jeremy Irons, and Winona Ryder playing Latinos.

LOL!!!
I forgot about that.
I suppose it wouldn't bother me so much if it were more balanced.. but unless you count Cameron Diaz.. Latino actors get screwed both ways.

I thought she played a white woman pretending to be Asian in that one.
Alec Guinness in MAJORITY OF ONE is a better example, I think.

I couldn't agree more with you, BFB. It's more about the principle of the matter for me. Yes, there are Latinos who look like William Hurt but how many roles for Latino actors are there? Especially a role as meaty as Molina.
Either way, this is great news! Thanks for letting us know, Taz.

You're so right, BFB.
And then, there's anyone who played Charlie Chan.
Or that other favorite bit of theater history - blackface.

Oh! Or Jon Pryce in Miss Saigon.
Who I still say is the best Engineer ever.
And, for the record, I do agree BFB, much as I would kill to play Angel or the Engineer, I can't.

I like how her dress changes from green to blue. She's like the Horse of a Different Color.
