Kiss The Rock Band

Does anyone here like the band Kiss? I never liked them and don't understand how they could be inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. I don't think they can sing anyone?
James Taylor, Elton, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen I can understand but KISS? I would love to see Squeeze in the Hall Of Fame. Thoughts?

Kiss The Rock Band

I liked them pre-punk when I was an adolescent. I still think the Destroyer album really holds up. Back then albums were about 30 minutes long, not the 70 minutes with 40 minutes of filler monstrosities most artists put out now.

I think Tom Morello, in his lead up to inducting them into the Hall of Fame, perfectly captured the thrill of seeing the band live when you were in puberty in the early-mid-'70s. "They were a rock band who were monsters! The concerts were like a live Godzilla movie."

Of course they were just a joke, but even as a joke they could concoct good rocking pop songs. Even later songs like "Creatures of the Night" and "Lick it Up" have great hooks. But of course, with only 50% of the original members it's just like a tribute band now.

My friend and I went to the reunion tour in '96 with the four original guys and laughed our asses off at how big and dumb the show was. It was a lot of fun. It was similar to the Destroyer tour I saw in high school. Only bigger and explosionier and with flying. We also saw The Sex Pistols reunion tour that year and my friend and I laughed our asses off (Johnny Rotten: "We're fat, 40 and back!") at that show. It too was a lot of fun. The Pistols, notoriously and perfectly told the Rock Hall to stick their award up its ass. THAT'S rock and roll.

KISS should've been put in the Hall years ago, but that whole thing is a joke. Madonna? Rock and roll? Linda Ronstadt? Rock and roll? Cat Stevens? Rock and roll? James Taylor? Rock and roll? Puh-lease. After the '96 reunion tour, Kiss shoulda called it quits. But that Gene Simmons is a businessman, and as long as there's money to grab from the band's fans, he will. In the future, there will be an official KISS touring band with no original members.

Kiss The Rock Band

From Wikipedia:

"Kiss has been awarded 28 gold albums to date, the most of any American rock band. The band has sold more than 40 million albums in the United States, of which 24 million have been certified by the RIAA and their worldwide sales exceeds 100 million records, making them one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time."

"Kiss has been named in many "Top" lists. They include Number 10 on VH1's '100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock', 9th on 'The Greatest Metal Bands' list by MTV, number one on Hit Paraders's "Top 100 Live Bands", 56th on VH1's "100 Greatest Artists Of All Time", and 26th on Gibson's "50 Greatest American Rock Bands"."

Not sure what you believe the qualifications should be. I personally am not a fan but I still can recognize that they are an iconic Rock Band that deserves to be in the HOF. I suggest you reconsider your position.

To be fair, I don't think Corine is a rock fan and the Hall doesn't do anything but muck up the waters by inducting artists that are so far from rock and roll that to include them is a real head scratcher. Donna Summer? She was never rock and roll.

You can spend a long time being driven crazy by who's in and doesn't deserve to be and who isn't and it's criminal. But I will say the one I still can't get over is the omission of The New York Dolls. KISS used to open for them and lifted so many elements and then dumbed them down all the way to the bank. The Hall is too stupid to not have put the Dolls in. But now that KISS is in, it's time for The Plasmatics.

For you the criminal omission is the New York Dolls. For me it's The Moody Blues. Just saw them again last fall. Still excellent. I agree about who the Hall inducts. There seems to be little logic behind it. It's become more of a "Music" Hall of Fame, which is OK with me too but just call it that.

I thought she said she wasn't posting here any more?

She's like mold that won't go away.
"TheatreDiva90016 - another good reason to frequent these boards less."<<>> “I hesitate to give this line of discussion the validation it so desperately craves by perpetuating it, but the light from logic is getting further and further away with your every successive post.” <<>> -whatever2

Aw, a lot of people say that. And Corine took what can only be called a real healthy break.

That 90 minute break she took was extremely healthy.

Corine, I would think you'd love the Starchild. A nice Jewish man, plenty of money, played the Phantom in Toronto.
