Kristen Chenowith - GLEE - "Alone", "Maybe This Time", "Last Name"

JUST YOU WAIT, KIDDIES!

Kristen sings the following songs in the next few weeks of GLEE. For synching purposes, tracks are pre-recorded weeks or months in advance. This being said...

She does a knock-out "Maybe This Time", and they use the original film orchestrations and arrangement, which I love. And a suprise ending only Kristen could pull off.

I was shocked at how gritty and gutsy her version of Carrie Underwood's "Last Name" sounds. Pretty fierce.

and the piece de resistance:

"Alone" - ::SPOILERin a duet with MattM!-ENDSPOILER:: needless to say, I was quite moved and the SPOILERchemistrySPOILER is fantastic and she has never sounded better.

I look forward to tomorrow's episode.

Yup, it is. I don't love it, she sounds pretty shrill for the first half of the song, but it does pretty much come together when Matt Morrison comes in.

I actually kinda love their version of Alone... it's one of my all time favorite songs and I think they did a great job!

"Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"

I haven't heard it, but it scares me. I don't like it when most people cover Heart classics. There is only one Ann Wilson and she tore it up.
Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

She might as well sing "Natural Woman" or "Chain of Fools".

Dont mess with classics by the greats!

Noone will ever do it justice. Ann is a goddess.

I completely disagree. I am a huge fan of Heart; bought all their albums in the late 70s and saw them in concert several times. However, I don't think any song should be sacrosanct. I'm not saying it can't fail; that would be possible regardless of the material. I just think any song should be open to reinterpretation.

Actually, let me correct myself. I think it takes a certain kind of voice to pull off a Heart song. I think Carrie Underwood did a good job with Alone. Gretchen Wilson can absolutely tear up just about any Heart song there is (and I usually can't stand her!) I just cringe when I think of Cheno, with her operatic soprano, singing Alone. I am sure she will surprise me.

Ugg, if anyone should stay away from Heart classics it's Celine.... Sorry, she just has one of those voices that rubs me the wrong way!

I think Carrie Underwood's "Alone" was pretty damn good and nearly as good as the original, no small feat.

And as far as covering HEART is concerned: it's one thing to cover "Alone", it would be A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THING to cover "Crazy On You", "Barracuda", "Dog & Butterfly" or "Dreamboat Annie". Some things just should not be touched. "Alone" is not one of those things, particularly since most people under 30 are probably more familiar with the Celine/Carrie or AI versions than the original.

I'll agree that others "can" sing Alone, but perhaps they shouldnt because the original vocal was so perfect and iconic. The very best you can do is second best to the original.

That coming from someone who used Alone as an audition piece for years...heh!

I can't believe Kristen and Jane Lynch didn't have any interaction. A scene between them would have been hilarious.
