L.A. Film Festival's Raddon resigns

Under mounting pressure, Los Angeles Film Festival director Richard Raddon has ankled his post.

Raddon and Film Independent (FIND), the festival's parent org, have faced a barrage of protests over Raddon's contribution to the successful Yes on Prop. 8 campaign that banned same-sex marriage in California.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

"If you're asking, 'Do we take discrimination against gays as seriously as bigotry against African Americans and Jews?' . . . the answer is, 'Of course we do.' But we also believe that some people, including Rich [Raddon], saw Prop. 8 not as a civil rights issue but a religious one. That is their right. And it is not, in and of itself, proof of bigotry." - Dreamgirls director Bill Condon, referring to the brewing controversy over LA Film Festival director Richard Raddon's $1000 contribution to Yes On 8.

Another gutless Mormon quits his job. Have these people no courage at all? Harvey Milk stood taller for his right to suck c*ck than these guys are standing for their own religious beliefs.

And Bill Condon is wrong. Supporting Prop 8 is proof of bigotry.

It's amazing to me how many gay men and women will support a religious person's right to discriminate against them. It's also bewildering to me that right-wing prganisations can picket and boycott and they receive no criticism for their actions. Gay men and women do it and they are fascists. I don't recall Gingrich and his ilk condemning Phelps and company for protesting at the funerals of gay men. It was only when they started protesting at military funerals that they caught some flak.

So...if someone believes that black people are the cursed race because of scripture in The Bible it would be okay to descriminate against them and vote to take away their rights?

About Bill...

not suprised by his statement. He is a homo who doesn't care about his rights. Hell, the entire cast of DREAMSGIRLS was like an anti-gay festival. I hightly doubt those buggers supported same-sex marriage either.

"I'm personally saddened by the outcome," said Film Independent board member Bill Condon, the writer-director of "Dreamgirls." "Someone has lost his job and possibly his livelihood because of privately held religious beliefs. I think the organization was ready to tough this out, but Rich ultimately decided it wasn't worth the cost. I'm not sure he was right."

Privately held religious beliefs which he foisted on other people and used to deprive them of rights. OK, Mr. Condon, you won't be getting any money from me for any of your future projects.
