We are gonna see some Jacob/smokey action tonight!
The one Ben-centric episode we had was quite revelatory (I do think it has only been one, right?), so I'd like to see a Ben-centric episode. Though for some reason I thought we'd get a Jack-centric episode. Either way, I'm sure it'll be quite a kick-ass episode.
I'm just so excited that we'll be getting a 3-hour finale! They really are doing their best to satisfy the fans.

Oh - if it's Ben-centric, it should be good. He's one of the most mysterious and interesting characters on the show!

Posted: 4/24/08 at 3:05pmI agree. I think Michael Emerson should have won the Emmy over Terry O'Quinn. Emerson's portrayal of Ben is just chilling in so many levels. His scene with Elizabeth Mitchell in "The Other Woman" where he tells her "because you're mine!" was priceless.

There's going to be a 3 hour finale?!
Ray- I totally agree that Emerson should have gotten the Emmy over O'Quinn. While I love both characters, Ben is just far more interesting and definitely one of the creepiest villains(if you want to call him that) ever on TV in my opinion.
I cannot wait for tonight. I bet it will be one of the most exciting episodes this season.

Kasie, the finale is going to be a two-part finale that will total three hours. The first hour will air the second week of May, I believe. Then the next week we'll getting a GREY'S ANATOMY two-hour finale, no LOST. The following Thursday, which I believe is May 25th (ish), we will have a the second part which will be the last two hours of the finale.
The last hour was added after the creators and producers decided that it'd be harmful to the storyline and unfair to the fans to cramp the ending in a two-part (1 hour each) episode as it was originally intended. Apparently, the draft for that finale was 80 pages long. The revelations are too many, from what I read. So we're getting a 14th hour of LOST!

Score. This makes me happy.
When do you think we will have a Daniel-centric episode? He's just so interesting to me, I want to know more about him.

I'm so depressed.
Could you put SPOILERS in the thread title Kasie so that we can discuss things?

"They Changed The Rules"
Can someone explain?
Also, what does he mean "if they can find the island?"
#14re: L O S T
Posted: 4/25/08 at 12:18amI don't think we're yet supposed to know the meaning of "they changed the rules" and if they can find the island. It's obvious that the island is almost impossible to get to, even if you know where it is.
#15re: L O S T
Posted: 4/25/08 at 1:00amI'm thinking the island is somehow cloaked. We know it can not be seen on radar. Didn't Ben say that Penelope is on the island? We know Desmond makes it off the island, so we have a new mystery here. We also know Ben can control the smoke monster. It looked like he went in some kind of cave and why did he have to be alone? Ben I think is the most interesting character and I believe he is the heart of the island.

Posted: 4/25/08 at 1:07amNo, ben didn't say Penelope was on the island, he just said he was going ot kill her.

I am so heartbroken and impressed at the same time. I loved Alex.
I wasn't expecting her to be gone so soon.
Aside from that, I was completely blown away by this episode. One of the best in LOST history, IMO. Michael Emerson gave one of his best performances yet. Absolutely brilliant.
And no, Penny is definitely not on the island. She's still searching for Desmond and I don't think she has any idea what her father is doing.

That was fantastic!
Ben was clearly time-traveling, which became obvious when he asked the hotel clerk about the date. It was nice to see the way they tied the loosed ends from the ending of "The Economist" in the way that Ben and Sayid became involved. It was so clear that Ben was conning Sayid into working for him. Like Sawyer says, the best con is that in which you let the other person believe that it's their idea.
I think that the line about the rules was explained at the ending when Ben meets Widmore (and I love Alan Dale's original Australian accent...used to his American accent from UGLY BETTY) and he tells him he'll regret changing the rules. I was in SHOCK when Alex died, she was one of my favorite characters and I just thought that she would be able to survive after what happened to Rosseau and Karl. I believe this was the first episode in which I felt for Ben. The character is SO complex, I can't get enough of him. He is the definition of a character that we love to hate.
The freighter people definitely don't mean good news. Can't wait for next week! This was probably the one post-strike episode that did not disappoint me at all.

Yes, can't wait for next weeks as well. I wonder what's wrong with Jack.
Who was the guy that killed Alex? I remember him from the freighter, but dont remember his name. Anyway...how did he not get killed by the smoke? He was in next weeks trailer...

Posted: 4/25/08 at 4:02amIn the preview for next week it showed Juliet saying something about Jacks's appendix.

"No, ben didn't say Penelope was on the island, he just said he was going ot kill her."
When Ben warned him he was going to kill his daughter his response was about the island. This lead me to believe she was there. Hope your right. That would complicate things even more.
The time travel angle makes sense. I think you might be right. I'm now thinking back to see if there has been references to time travel in past episodes. Something tells me Walt and time travel are playing into this, just not sure how. I also in the preview for next weeks episode that guy who shot Ben's daughter. I thought he was killed with the others in the woods by the smoke monster. I sort of assumed he was Ben's/the smoke monsters main target.

Loved this episode and I have a theory that at the end of the Economist the name Ben gives Sayid is Penny, to me it would explain why Widmore was nicer to Desmond(gave him Penny's phone number and address) in "The Constant" because he knows Desamond would do anything to save his daughter
I also believe the whole "He changed the rules thing" is about how people can't die because the island won't let it happen....remember Michael trying to kill himself and couldn't do it...so maybe he thought the gun was going to jam, that Alex was safe....
also Ben couldn't kill Widmore because Widmore must have been on the island before which makes me want to believe that maybe Charles Widmore was the originally on The ship The Black Rock and I say this because people tend not to age on this island, look at one Richard Halpert who hasn't aged since Ben say him in the woods as a child
so very interesting....I can't wait till they show the Orchid station...if you haven't seen the orientation film on it go to the site and search orchid orientation film....it really doen't spoil you but it does make you think more and more about the time traveling aspect....on a fun note the date that Ben was in Tunsia was Oct 24th 2005....in Back to the Future the day he goes back is Oct 24th....funny

Posted: 4/25/08 at 9:39amThis was the weakest episode ever. It's like they rushed to get these eps out after the strike or something. Why would anyone trust Ben after what he did to this daughter. I would have shot him and Locke right then and there.

Gotta disagree, bk. I looved this episode. There was at least 3-4 times that I just held my mouth wide open as I watched.
A big question I have is did smoky ever come out while Ben was held captive by the Losties? If so, maybe Ben didn't control him the whole time. But then think about all the other times Smoky came out -- why would Ben make him come out in those instances?
Why does Locke need Hurley to find Jacob? Shouldn't Ben know? I mean, Hurley found the cabin before and I would understand it if it was just Locke and Hurley, but Ben says to follow him, anyway.
And I adore the relationship between Sawyer and Hurley. "If you harm one hair on his curly head..." Aww!
What about the doctor? I'm beginning to wonder if there's more than one boat...or some sort of alternate reality with the boats? All the calls they made to...whoever haven't coincided with what's been going on with the boat we saw.
Nice to see Bernard, too.
