I just caught this flick offa the Netflix a couple of days ago and I can't get it out of my head. This is camp gourmet, kids. Le genius!

It all begins with a closeup of a wet female mouth as a husky male voice off camera grunts "Oh, yeaaah baby lick your lips....oh, that's good....tilt your head up....unnnnh thass beautiful....you're so beautiful..." and so on. We pull back to reveal not a porny sleaze scene but a glamourous photo shoot! Quel surprise! And the Madonna/Whore theme of LIPSTICK is set.

Annnd it ends with Margeaux Hemingway running through a parking lot in broad daylight with a rifle, the chiffon from her seventies couture gown trailing behind her.

In between, we have some wretched prog-synth ear damage, Margeaux's sister Mariel as a sort of pre-menstrual Brandon DeWilde-type character, Chris Sarandon butt nekkid, a horrible rape scene, Anne Bancroft in an afro looking like she can't wait to get her check, a totally inappropriate conversation about scat (in front of a child, no less!), and the most preposterous courtroom scene in movie history where little Mariel is asked if she has read THE STORY OF O.

This thing is a gem, I tell ya...a gem!

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

this sounds as brilliant as Wild In The Streets.

I must see this!

For another amazingly good time, try The Big Cube. Lana Turner doing LSD. Fantastic.

....but the world goes 'round

Boys, I saw this on the big screen when it first came out. I was only 16 and we thought it was campy then.

It would make a lovely pairing with either THE EYES OF LAURA MARS or THE FAN.

We had "Lipstick" shown to us at highschool after one teacher got sick and went home and they had no idea what to do with the class. My guess is that it had been floating around the staffroom , and it was a fantastic case of "This'll do..." we had a very straight, religious girl in the class who was completely gobsmacked.

Thats hilarious! That would be lawsuit material these days.

"Okay, kids...we're going to watch LIPSTICK? Um. I think its about young people so you should enjoy it. Somebody want to hit the lights?"

A musical version of LIPSTICK could play across the street from MAIRSPRAY. A show called PANCAKE could play down the street.

The climax of this film has never been equalled--the awesomely untalented, whiny Margaux Hemingway (that VOICE!) in her bright red evening dress, chasing psycho rapist Chris Sarandon around a parking lot toting a shotgun (which doesn't go with her heels at all). However, little Mariel Hemingway is terrific and steals the entire movie (not a major feat.)
