re: LOST... the season finale

I heard a rumor that the creators of Lost said at some TV conference thing that they have 8 seasons planned. 8! I'm so addicted to this show, it's insane.

And I agree, Walt is clearly a prophet of Jesus.

If this whole things turns out to be a dream or the vision of an Autistic child, I'm going to have to crack some skulls.

and WHY am I strangely attracted to Dominic Monaghan as Charlie? (I mean, OTHER than his being a hobbit. Thats obvious!)

re: LOST... the season finale

I was wondering why I was so disappointed about the fact that no secrets were revealed, and couldn't figure it out. There's a good article in msnbc...

"Plenty of clues to pick over during the summer
If nothing else, these last two hours of the first season of "Lost" had their share of shocking moments: still devastated over the loss of her own child, Rousseau kidnapped Claire's baby; high school teacher Arzt exploded while handling dynamite; the raft encountered a boat piloted by people ("the others"?) who kidnapped Walt; the monster appeared, rattled its chains, and then ingested dynamite, burping smoke; Hurley saw his winning lottery numbers on the side of the hatch, but Locke blew it open despite Hurley's protest's and Walt's earlier warning.

These moments hit hard, and they will certainly leave the faithful hunting for clues, about everything from the numbers to the possibilities that they suggest. But with the exception of Walt's kidnapping, the events had little lasting impact. After a season full of questions, a finale full of new questions — instead of answers — is somewhat of a letdown."

re: LOST... the season finale

Just think of the fun that will be had all this summer. We'll be mulling over evry little tidbit. Much like a few seasons ago on the West Wing (remember "who got hit?!)
I for one love cliff hangers as long as the show is coming back.

re: LOST... the season finale

I confess to being an on-again, off-again LostHead, so these are probably dumb questions, but...

1) I looked, but I didn't see any monster - did I miss something?

2) Why didn't Walt and Hurley want to open the hatch?

I can't wait to watch all the episodes... does anyone know what ABC plans to do about reruns?

re: LOST... the season finale

I don't think it was ever explained why Walt doesn't want them to open the hatch (though the Prophet of God thing is probably about right) and Hurley didn't want to open it because those infamous numbers he's always thinking about were on the side of the hatch.

I, too, missed the monster. There were some shadow-y things around...

I do remember thinking "Please God, make it a T-Rex!"

re: LOST... the season finale

I saw the part with Hurley, and I got that the numbers were the lottery numbers, but I couldn't figure out why that meant they couldn't blow the hatch - it was still going to be (somewhat) intact??

It's a bigggg monster in an invisibility cloak

re: LOST... the season finale

OnTheAisle, I think Huryley's objection was less "Don't blow open the hatch" and more "don't open the hatch period"... after Hurley's unrelenting bad luck since winning the lottery with those numbers, there's no way anything good could come of it.

I'm not sure what ABC's doing about reruns, but the full season comes out on DVD in the fall!

re: LOST... the season finale

At this point with Lost, I have given up trying to understand what motivates these characters to freak out. Hurley and his numbers, Walt and his psychic/whatever abilities, etc. However, I am so hooked in this show - I can't NOT watch. Thank god for summer. I'll get my life back a little:)

And OntheAisle...I agree. More shows needs to use invisibility cloaks.

That's what I took away from it also NC. Hurley's story all night was about luck.

re: LOST... the season finale

I was quite pleased with the season finale, especially the death of the high school science teacher. That was wild. I think the "others" do want Claire's baby, but Walt was an easy catch and the French woman now appears to the castaways to be crazier than ever. As for the monster, I think it is mechanical in nature based on the sound effects used in the show last night. And the others may be underground. Personally, I liked that too much was not revealed. I'm looking forward to season 2. Also, it was revealed several episodes ago that the numbers were on the hatch.

re: LOST... the season finale

Okay, okay...I understand that they would want to save some mystery, but look at Desperate Housewives! They preserved mystery, set up some good plotlines for the fall, and EXPLAINED ENOUGH SO THAT I DON'T POUR ACID ON PEOPLE!! Why can't LOST explain anything? We're still gonna watch it. I mean, that episode would be KICK ASS if it were just an episode, but it's cruel to give us such cliffhangers in every aspect of the plot and expect us to wait MONTHS for answers.

re: LOST... the season finale

Spoilers!!

Charlie-heroine
Claire-naming Aaron & I wish that her and Charlie would just get together already!
Sayid-confused as to how he can still love Nadia when he is now with Shannon... or doesn't he anymore?
Walt-I knew they were going to come for him!!!
Jack-I also knew that he put the dynamites in his own bag and not Kate's after he took off his backpack when the "mysterious creature" came...

Not to be mean or anything, but now that the hatch is open... there is no way that Hurley is going to be able to get in anyway. And I am afraid because Walt would know what not to open becuase he is psycho and Hurley is bad luck and the numbers! What an amazing season finale... and I can't wait for it to start all over again, and I can't believe I have to wait so long...

re: LOST... the season finale

RE: the monster, JJ Abrams (sp) was on Carson Daly last night (yep, I'm up late) and even though I was half paying attention, he did say something to the effect that the monster is 'real'. Basically he "ate" the dynamite and burped... I'm not sure if it was JJ or one of the actors that was on... one of them was Hurley. Yeah, I was half asleep.

re: LOST... the season finale

Sorry for bumping a dead thread. I'm a new Losthead. I watched the season finale from a tape a few days ago out of boredom, and now I'm hooked and stuck with re-runs to fill in the blanks. (I missed the first two episodes, and have just taped episode 3 - I want to read the TWOP recaps of 1 and 2 before I view 3 though.)

A few questions I have about the season finale so if someone could please fill in the blanks, I'd be much obliged:

1. Is Hurley Hugo? And if so, is he the one worth $160m?

2. What's up with Rousseau? Does she have anything to do with that walkie-talkie that had the same mutterings on a loop for 16 years?

3. Who are the "regulars" on the show, and who are the newbies? Was it expected that Azt (sp?) would be blown up?

I also found some new spoilers for season 2.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the world's first official "Lost" convention in Burbank over the weekend, cast & crew members made an appearance and spoke a little about secrets to be revealed in the show's much anticipated second season and The LA Times has done an in-depth article on what was said. Amongst the revelatory tidbits (MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD):

- At the end of a Q&A session with several of the show's writers, one audience member shouted, "Don't kill Sawyer," referring to the island's hunky bad boy. Executive producer Damon Lindelof replied, "We won't. But he did get shot, which means his shirt will be off in a future episode." As female crowd members whooped, Lindelof added, "And he'll be wet" (due to Sawyer's fall into the ocean).

- "The plane did not crash by accident," Lindelof told the crowd. "It crashed for a very specific reason." But he dismissed speculation that someone aboard the plane caused the crash. "I will tell you today that is not the case."

- Lindelof promises "Season 2 is gonna get weird" - though he and other writers promised the mysteries wouldn't drag on as long as "The X Files," which ran nine seasons. What's inside the mysterious hatch will be interesting, but not as interesting as the effect it has on the John Locke character.

- Finally, and not surprisingly, the rear section of the plane - and additional survivors - will be discovered during the second season.

re: LOST... the season finale

OK Type_A_Tiff, let's see if I can help.

1. Hurley=Hugo. He won the $160 million with numbers he got from a man in an institution. The man would just repeat the numbers over and over. Hurley went to Australia to find the origin of the numbers and found out that they were linked to a death there. Hurley is now convinced that the numbers are cursed.

2. Apperantly Rousseau is the voice of the woman in the loop.

3. Pretty much everyone featured in the finale is a regular, except for Rousseau(she's been featured in 3 or 4 episodes), Azt (not sure how to spell it either) showed up the episode before. He might of been shown in the premiere episode but I'd have to watch it again. There is another woman named Rose who is featured occasionally. Her husband was in the rear section of the plane when it went down. She is convinced that her husband is still alive on another part of the island.

Anything else? If I missed something or messed something up please correct me. : )

re: LOST... the season finale

Thanks HRH! (Her Royal Highness?)

1) Has Hurley voiced this concern to anyone? When that Evangeline Lilly girl asked him what he was muttering, he didn't explain to her the history.

2) What's Rousseau's deal? She was in a plane crash 16 years ago and the "others" took her baby? Was she the only survivor? Is her kid with the pirates now?

*spoiler re: season 2*

3) I take it if Rose's hubby was in the back of the plane, then he'll be found alive with Michelle Rodriguez's character?

4) What was Evangeline Lilly's character (what's her name??) doing time for? Are both her and Sawyer murderers?

5) How come Jack and Locke didn't discuss the monster/chain thingy after it happened? Has this happened before? Why didn't we get to see what it was, or what Jack was looking at?

All righty T_A_T before I explain more, are you gonna watch the reruns? I don't want to spoil the Kate (evangeline lily) stuff for you.

re: LOST... the season finale

I'm going to watch the reruns but it seems like such a daunting task and I've heard the middle of the season was a bit dry and plodding, so I'd rather know a few of the main tidbits early so I can have something to anticipate and I'll want to watch it unfold.

re: LOST... the season finale

1. Hurley on some occasions has mentioned he's cursed. The people he's mentioned this to have pretty much blown him off saying that's it's not about him, everybody's luck was bad. Actually it's almost as if no real harm comes to Hurley but to those he has tried to help with his money. He did make a throw away comment to Walt that he was good for the money Walt won playing backgammon. The only person he's told more information to is Rosseau and she did seem to take him seriously.

2. Rosseau's deal is that she was on a research ship that was "lured" there some 16 years ago. They were responding to a distress signal much like the one the survivors picked up on their transmitter/radio. I think here baby's name was Alex but we still don't really know what's happened to him.

3. Possibly. They haven't found the tail section of the plane, and Rose seems to be the only one who believes he's still alive.

4. I don't want to give away too much about Kate. Her 3rd big episode has a bigger impact that way. I will say that her crimes started out smaller and ballooned into a death. Yes Sawyer did kill a man (I'm a little fuzzy as to the why, my sister kept calling me during the episode)

5. They are still keeping the monster a mystery. That is the first time we heard mechanical sounds associated with it. Assuming tha's even related to the other monster sightings. By the way they shot a polar bear in an early episode. No explanation yet as to what that was doing there.

Whew...anything else?

Okay then. I think that's all for now. Thanks so much for the explanations! I can't wait to start watching the re-runs. Looks like Sex and the City and Angels in America will just have to wait!

Cheers!

re: LOST... the season finale

We didn't get into this show until the summer reruns - but loved it and then we were completely flabbergasted when they decided to skip several episodes to fit it into their schedule - so we went and bought the DVDs and just got caught up last night - I think this show is simply tremendous. I love being left in the dark and having to try to figure it out for myself. I've developed a theory early on that may have been completely off the mark - but my original thought was that they are all dead and this is a form of purgatory - it's God's way of testing them to see if they will move on to heaven or hell. They each seem to have something to be sorry for in their past, and several have moved forward and done very redeeming things in this season on the island. The island is sort of a metaphor for God, I think. I think that's where Locke is heading with his ideas also. Remember, last night he said to Jack - you're a man of science and I'm a man of faith. I'm thinking it's all about the afterlife. Remember in one of the earliest episodes when Rose (the african american woman who we've only seen a couple times) said that she was sure that her husband was alive - because he was in the back of the plane? I think that means that he survived and she didn't. But I could be completely off the mark. It IS fun to try and figure it all out. And whether I'm right or not - I love the writing, performances, direction and special affects. It's really much better than a Steven Speilberg movie, in my opinion.

Yikes - no other Lost lovers out there? I would have thought this show would be really popular among theatre folk.
