My dad, who grew up in Queens, is convinced he knows everything there is to know about New York. But he hasn't lived there for like 15+ years.
I'm flying into La Guardia and my destination is West 63rd Street. I will have two large luggage and a carry-on (should strap messenger bag).
1) How much would a cab be? My dad says cabs don't go borough to borough and they do it'll cost hundreds of dollars.
2) My original plan was to take the bus to a subway stop then take the subway to whatever station is closest then either take a cab or walk.
3) My dad says a friend told him there is a train that goes from La Guardia to Penn Station and I'm told Penn Station is not that far from West 63rd Street and I could take a cab for pretty cheap from there.
Thanks for the advice in advance!

Well - I can now see the family resemblance.

A cab from LaGuardia to West 63rd will be approximately $25 plus bridge toll plus tip.
The Airport Bus will charge $12 to take you to Port Authority or Penn Station. From there you can catch a cab or subway.

You can catch the M60 bus at La Guardia for $2 (change only no bills) and then transfer to a bus that goes down Central Park West (M10 at 125th Street and Fredick Douglas Blvd which turns into Central Park West). Ask for a transfer on the first bus. This way is not recommended with a lot of luggage.

I don't think the AirTrain has been built as far as LaGuardia yet. Right now it's from JFK to Jamaica Train station. From there you take a 20 minute train to Penn Station.
You could just take a cab from La Guardia to the Jamaica Train Station. The cabfare from the airport to the station wouldn't be too expensive.
Thanks, everyone. I think I'm just going to take a cab. It's not too expensive and I won't have to transfer.
The most you'll pay for a cab is $40...IF the traffic is horrendous. Go that route.

She loves my voice, my walk, my mustache,
The cigar, in fact, that I'm smoking.
She'll watch me puff until it's just ash,
Then she'll save the cigar butt.
