I'm auditioning for Cinderella tonight.
I have an immobilizing fear of singing in front of people.
It's like my stomach is in knots, and there are butterflies in my stomach, and the butterflies get caught in the knots, and it's just a big mess.
I'm worried that I might wet my pants.
Or vomit.
Or cry.
If there are no bodily fluids involved in the auditioning process, I should be alright.
Cross your fingers, just in case.
Break a leg, darling! We're all rooting for you here!
Ooo... what are you singing??? "Somewhere That's Green"???
List 'crying, wetting your pants and vomiting on command' as 'other skills' on the audition form!
We are asked to sing 14-16 bars of a song from Cinderella.
I'm going to sing "Boys and Girls Like You and Me".
I think it's a song that not many people will choose, as it's a bit more complicated musically than, say, "In My Own Little Corner" (which no doubt will be the choice of the masses).
I don't have the best voice in the world, but I'm an excellent musician, and I plan to use that to my benefit.
I don't know if we will be accompanied, but I almost hope we aren't.
It would make me nervous.
And besides, I know that I can sing a song and end in the same key I started in, which I don't think everyone can do, so that might help distract from my imperfect voice.
Thanks kitten.
Hey, I don't remember what I did with your Cinderella songlist...
Would you mind sending it to me again?
I SANG "BOYS AND GIRLS LIKE YOU AND ME"!!!
I was King Maximllian in a production of Cinderella.
I wish the songs were higher, but it was fun.
I sent you the song list Flowery. tell me what you think...

Kitten, I love that you incorporated so many songs!
My audition wasn't pretty.
Will explain later.
Alright, time for my audition story.
Walk up to evil woman at piano.
(background: she is the witchy choir director here. I dropped out of the high choir here after one semester. She had specifically chosen two pieces because she "finally had someone who could hit the optional low notes" that she felt were necessary. That would be me, by the way. So naturally she was rather upset at me dropping choir. In fact, she looked up my student I.D. number from the previous semester and added me to the class without my knowledge. Imagine my surprise when I received a mid-semester deficiancy report for a class I didn't think I was taking.)
Tell her I wish to sing "Boys and Girls Like You and Me"
She says, in her usual b-witchy disapproving tone, ""WHAT? I didn't think anyone was going to sing THAT. I don't even know what page it's on. And I'm not going to play it well."
I say, as sweetly as possible, "Oh, that's alright. I'm comfortable singing it a cappella."
She says, "Well I certainly am not going to let you do THAT. No, I'll play it and you'll deal with it, and I'll just follow you."
She then IMMEADIATELY begins playing the piece, skipping the introduction, I spin around to face the audience and have to start a couple words in. She keeps changing tempo and definitely NOT following me, which sounds horrible, so I make the mental switch and try to follow her. This works for awhile, until she completely fell apart. It sounded like a 5-year-old banging on keys for about 3 seconds. So, in my nervous state, I forget a few words, and then sang a note sharp. I said thank you, walked off stage, and promptly began hyperventillating. Thrilling experience.
The acting part went alright. The director gave us short clips of what a certain character would say, and then we performed them in gibberish to prove that we could use our voice and movement to embody the character without relying on words. So I had the step-mother first. He asked me to do it as a hungry dog, and then as a snake. (he's a fun director.) Then he had me read the Cinderella line as a bomb about to explode.
I'm not expecting to be called back. The only part in the show that I might conceivably be appropriate for my psycho-physical rhthym is a step-sister, which he didn't ask me to read for. *sigh*
But that's cool. I'm pretty sure I can make the chorus. Pretty dresses and waltzing! Woo-hoo!!!
Oh, honey, that sounds harrowing. I'm sorry. *ladles out chicken soup*
But good job regardless!
I WAS CALLED BACK!!!
After THAT audition!
Insane, I know, but I have been called back for Cinderella and for a Stepsister.
(not too excited about the Cinderella, but WOO-HOO on the Stepsister!!!)
I have to go make myself look presentable before 7:00.
(Hmm... I can't see that entry... It must be on the borderline between pages or something.)
Congratulations! *throws party*

Break a leg, Flowery!
I'll pop a cork for ya.
WOOHOO!!!
You go girl!!!
mmhmmm!
Oh my gosh, guys!
I just came back from callbacks, and I'm actually happy with what I did.
As I was leaving, the stage manager (good friend of mine) came out of the theatre and caught me. The only two girls still reading for Cinderella were vocal music performance majors. She told me that she thinks the director wanted me for the role of Cinderella, and was pressured out of it by the evil music woman (you know... the one who screwed up my initial audition... grrr...)
But my audition for a step-sister went really well! And I was a lot less nervous than I thought I would be. I think it went well.
I was so worried I was going to embarrass myself. I generally do not do well with singing in front of people. In fact, in high school I used to refuse to sing at callbacks because I didn't want to sing on stage by myself. But it looks like I'm slowly getting over that. :) I don't even care if I get a role or not. I'm just happy to have done my best.
YAY AIEA!!!
I'm SO PROUD OF YOU HONEY!!!
YOU"RE BEAUTIFUL AND I DLOVE YOU!!!
MWA MWAD!!!
