Wow, it only took one reply to get right to the gutter. Good job! :)
Anyway, congrats to Armstrong. Is he really retiring now?

No he's def. not retiring but he's not sure he'll do the Tour again.
When did he start dating Sheryl Crow?

Posted: 7/25/04 at 5:02pmRight around the time she realized she could have her name in the press every day by joining him at the Tour de France.

Good for him!
I thought he was married at one point, I guess he's not anymore.

He got divorced. Or is in the middle of one.
This man is a fighter and a surivor and deserves the respect of everyone on the planet.
Shame on those who cursed/harassed/spat on him.

Ditched his wife after she loyally stood by him and nursed him during his cancer scare.
He's a great cyclist. He's also a pig.
Hope she bleeds him dry.

Posted: 7/26/04 at 1:10amI'm intrigued by how many personal friends of the Armstrong's post on these boards. At least I'm assuming they're friends, because obviously no one who didn't know them and the real circumstances of their lives would have anything to say about the situation.

Exactly. It would be rash indeed to assume he deserves ANY respect for his behaviour.

Lance Armstrong...
Dan Jansen...
Hmmm...names of male athletes who ditch their loyal wives and children who stood by when they were sick/struggling once they hit the spotlight.
Anyone care to add to the list.
Congrats to Lance on the biking achievement.
Not sure I want to put him in the role model category, however...

Posted: 7/26/04 at 12:51pmActually I believe he had a girlfriend who loyally stood by him through the cancer. After he got better they broke up (not sure who initiated the break-up, think it was Lance) and then he met his current wife whom he is now divorcing. When you don't know the details it's hard to pass judgement. She may have stood by him, but maybe she was a controlling freak or something.

Whatever the reason, it is private and none of our business.
The man deserves more respect.

I actually met Lance Armstrong a few years ago.
As most of you know, I do volunteer work at the Sanctuary of Lourdes in France. It is located in the foothills of the Pyrenees.
That year the Tour de France as going right through the Pyrenees and most of the participants--and their entourages were staying in the town of Lourdes (which has more hotels than Paris--no kidding!). Lance Armstrong and his group were staying at the Hotel Christinia, whic is a few doors away from the place where I stay every year. While walking home from my duties one evening, Lance and his friends were seated outside the Christina having drinks; I think it was Perrier. I shouted a "hello" to Lance and when he heard an American accent he came over and spoke to me for a few moments. He seemed nice enough, but I also sensed he was self-impressed.

Well, if he's self impressed, can you blame him?
Caravaggio, what is your deal? People divorce. Alot. They fall our of love and it just happens.
And he's still do-able, Plum...and anyone who poses so often with his shirt off obviously knows it, so...
Jesus, when did the prudes take over this board?
I love Lance, he's tops in my book.

Posted: 7/26/04 at 2:13pmI was kidding, Borstalboy. I haven't the slightest idea how many times Armstrong has posed with his shirt off, nor do I particularly care. But if you find it appealing, have fun. I'd be the worst kind of hypocrite if I condemned you for it, considering how much I like Hugh Jackman shirtless. :)
