For me, if you want to play game or do image processing, go buy a desktop for less than $400. Laptop is laptop. It has its specialties.
My problem was that I couldn't compromise- I was going to London and needed a computer that I could take there and would serve me for years to come. I rather prefer using a desktop computer, but as things stood I needed a laptop that would last (hence business-class) and had at least reasonable processor speed. I was lucky to get a good coupon and help paying. Now I wish I'd been able to wait a few months, because I could get better features on the same model for the same price. Kinda sad.

Dell Inpirion is personal-class. Lattitude is business-class.
For $2000, you should go for IBM thinkpad. Even talking about fancy, Mac is much fancier than Sony vio.
