AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (April 11) - Any father of a headstrong 14-year-old girl might recognize the words: "Just leave me alone, if you don't want me to stop trusting you for good." The furious letter from Anne Frank to her father, Otto, was written nearly two years after the Frank family locked itself into a concealed apartment to escape deportation by the Nazi army occupying the Netherlands.

good for her, I mean did people think she was anything but a normal teenagerin very extrodinary circumstances?

It is ridiculous to set a detective story in New York City. New York City is itself a detective story... AGATHA CHRISTIE, Life magazine, May 14, 1956

I'm not sure the point of the media (not you) making a "deal" over this. Given her age and her situation - I would find it incredibly peculiar for her not to express anger in some form.

What a wonderful article! I've always been a bit inspired by Anne, telling myself that my own struggles were nothing compared to hers. She has always been a wonderful inspiration for young girls, but I think this new information makes her a role model for young women as well. Thank you for posting this, Elphaba!! This is certainly an important time to remember, especially today.

Of course it's normal, but she's been sort of canonized as a hero (deservedly), but I think that might lead to thinking people might be shocked to get a reminder that she *was* a teenager.

I vaguely remember seeing the play on Broadway, and I'm pretty sure there was at least one scene that was kind of like this -- not about a letter, but about verbal conflict with other people in hiding with her; I can't remember if it was within her family or with someone in the other family. Of course, I'm not sure how much of that was based on truth and how much was artistic license, but if it was there, it's not exactly been hidden, or anything.

remember also that the most well-known version of anne frank's diary was heavily edited/censored by her father to remove any sexual thoughts and teenage rebellion qualities she was showing. many, many years later another diary of anne frank was released which included journal entries that had been cut out when the diary was first published.

Maybe it's Miep. She's still alive.

The diary was too heavily edited by her father. No child that age, living under those circumstances, could be the saint that the diary portrays.
