So these past few days were wonderful......Cal School Library Assn show in Sacramento, good weather, good food.....and wonderful seeing current, and many, many former customers.
I really had a blast, and this convention was much more upbeat than in the past, with a true hope for better funding in the future.
What really was a shock, was walking through the convention center to get to our hall, we were all confronted with hundreds of cheerleaders, from perhaps age 5 and up.......all hussied up, thick make-up, glitter, etc.......looked like a Jon-Benet Ramsey convention, and all the parents looked liked, hmmm.....how to say this.......like they came out of "them-thar" hills.......I have never seen a more ridiculous group, of HUGE stage-mothers, and Jethro Bodine fathers......like Butcher Hollow came to Sacramento, or as one librarian I know put it.......the type of parents that push their children into this, yet never push them into their homework.
All day long we listened to the screaming and "thump-thump-thump" of their dancing, cheering, etc.
And truly this country has problems when parents push their kids into this kind of crap....sad, very sad.
No child should look like a painted-up whore.........it just ain't fittin!
