I bought the book a few years ago when it was all the rage, and just couldn't read it. I tried twice and gave up each time. We saw the movie at the 10:30 a.m. show on Saturday (one of my favorite things to do - $7 instead of $14 before noon - gotta love it). I'm not a fan of most 3D, so we skipped the 3D showing, which I’m glad about, because I’m not sure I could have dealt with the intensity of it. I thought the film was visually stunning in a number of places, and I particularly enjoyed the opening credits and watching some of the technical aspects (although I wish that didn’t notice so overtly that I was watching them – maybe it just tried too hard for me). Other than that, while the film was ok, I found the whole experience of viewing it to be just too, too stressful. So much so that when the lights came on and the staff came in to clean the theater and asked how we liked it, all I could manage to say was that, after sitting through the film, I felt like hitting something (I’ve never hit anyone in my life, but I sure was looking around for Ouiser Boudreaux). Of the 3 in my group, one liked it way more than me and one liked it way less. I’m kind of glad I saw it, but I’m really glad it’s behind me.
