Tonight on Lifetime.
9pm
Please watch.
The film concerns the true story of Dr. Dennis Slamon (played by Harry Connick, Jr.), who helped develop the breast cancer drug Herceptin. Dr. Slamon is a research doctor at UCLA Medical Center (Los Angeles), where he has developed the experimental drug Herceptin, which he believes will become a treatment for breast cancer. However, when the drug company stops funding for research, philanthropists, including Lilly Tartikoff (Angie Harmon) and Ronald Perelman help him continue tests of the drug. Dr. Slamon loses some patients involved in the tests, but ultimately his work with the drug changes the course of breast cancer treatment.

From the news article on the BWW main page:
O.K. Gang! Get out the pink ribbons, grab a box of tissues and pull up a chair. I haven't done this much crying since the old days, when ABC used to air what we called "disease of the week" movies! Craig Zadan and Neil Meron really know how to throw a cast together ... and this television film is NO exception.
The network has framed it as a Lifetime Red Carpet Movie Event and it certainly delivers. It's always interesting to re-trace history and this true story will upset and satisfy you. The top-notch ensemble of actors, including a very welcome Trudie Styler and a too rarely seen John Benjamin Hickey, deliver in every way. Harry Connick, Jr. delivers the kind of performance we had yet to see in his acting career and Bernadette Peters will tear you apart. I'm not into "spoilers" ... so watch it or TIVO it.

It was... beautiful.
I'm speechless at the moment as memories of my own treatment and battle swirl around in my heart and mind.
If you are able to watch this movie, please do.
And, then please support whatever cause you believe in. Because each and every fight out there needs support.

Amen! Support your cause!
Here's an example: Cancer research indirectly benefits the foundation I work with as well. (Treatments developed specifically for cancer have been adapted for use in the genetic disorder I have.) There has also been a connection between the gene that causes the disorder and the rapid mutation of cancer cells once cancer has started to grow. I'm hoping this means greater research into the gene. Ultimately benefiting not only those those with the benign or cancerous tumors involved in my genetic disorder, and but those with all types of cancer.

son,
That is such an important point!
And in these difficult economic times funding is becoming scarce and important work may be lost due to the closing of labs and research projects.
We can never stop fighting for funding and awareness. And we will always be grateful to those who do the good work which saves lives.
Please watch this movie. Be reminded of how important it is never to give up hope. Be aware of how profound the fight to win is. Be moved by it!

The Bipartisan Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act Needs Your Support!
On September 25, 2008, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the bipartisan Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act, which would end the practice of "drive-through" mastectomies, when women are forced to leave the hospital within hours of undergoing major breast cancer surgery.
But the act still needs your support! Sign the petition below now and urge the Senate and the president to take the next steps to pass this bill.
