Hello all!
Does anyone have any links to pictures of turn of the century prostiutes? I'm looking for photos of the large, teased, mangled up-do's that are slightly messy with lots of curls. I've been all over the internet and can only find pictures of the clean cut women.

Posted: 2/26/09 at 7:15pmYou probably won't find any pictures (artist's renderings) of the real thing. Only the high-born ladies would have been considered suitable subjects for pictures at that time.

This is an engraving from A RAKES PROGRESS (1732-1735) the prostitutes look pretty tame.
Maybe you're looking for something like this from BARRY LYNDON? Although Marisa Berenson wasn't portraying a prostitute perhaps you could adapt the style.

Thanks. It's for a production of Sweeney Todd and I'm putting together a picture board to help the cast get a feel of the period. I wasn't looking for actual pictures of real women of the period, but I was hopiong more along the lines of movie still from that time. I've tried googling Sleepy Hollow and some others, but I'v ehaving trouble thinking of some more films that were of that period. The BARRY LYDON picture is great, but I'm looking more for prostitutes that royalty.
I think I'll add the picture of Sarah Palin just for fun! Besides, I have a direct link to Merkin World, but thanks!

Posted: 2/27/09 at 5:40pmI assume you mean 1800's hair? 18th century is the 1700's. Try looking into any of the movies on Jack the Ripper. 1880's... prostitutes.... there should be some good hooker hait in one of them.
