This is so very cool! Some 20 percent of Lang's original version had been considered lost forever. But they found it!! In Argentina!!
If Kino Video hasn't already planned to include it in the forthcoming Blu-ray release, they should delay its street date to include this. Hell, I'll wait.
Wow! I wonder if this guy has the missing Oz footage too!
*dreaming*
It just goes to show you... you NEVER KNOW.

That's amazing! I love that they found it in Argentina. I'm not sure why, but I do.
Maybe that's why Eva Peron's interred body disappeared for many years.
SHE had it!
Maybe that's Eva Peron's interred body under all that "armor"!
Besty, thanks for posting that good news! I remember that at one screening I saw of the film, the music was played live in the theater. Now I wish I can remember where and when that was~
I was gonna say "Berlin, The Three Penny Picture Palace, 1927," but I figured you'd reach across the continent and slap the hell out of me.
So I won't say it.
Now THAT's funny!

They have that model and some of the set for Metropolis at the Cinemateque in Paris. I actually touched it. They don't allow "the public" in there anymore, which is such a shame. I saw part of the set for Children of Paradise, too. I almost fainted.

I cannot wait to see that. I love that movie.
Wonderful news!
Slightly off topic but I don't think Best will mind. I wish someone would come across the original version of The Magnificent Ambersons.
I had heard for years now that various collectors around the world have most of the lost film 'London After Midnight'. Forrie Ackerman has said this for years as well.
If Kino includes it in their BD version, I will finally upgrade.
Thanks for sharing this besty!

But where is "The Day the Clown Cried"?!

Scary! I can see why it wasn't released!

This is very interesting. I'm going to hold off buying the Blu-ray unless it has this rediscovered footage available at least as a special feature that can be branched with the standard release.
I agree, they should include it.

miss pennywise, Les Enfants du Paradis is one of my all-time favorite films.
I can't wait until that is restored and released on Blu-ray.

This and the Oz DVD will be why I get a Blu-Ray.

I doubt this will be on any DVDs any time soon. The new print is a 16mm print, and there's apparently some significant damage to it, which will take time to restore. Then they'll do the obligatory theatrical re-release (I HOPE AND PRAY, I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS, don't get me wrong). Then it'll wind up on DVD, probably about the time that BluRay has been supplanted by whatever Blu-Ray will be supplanted by.
Here's an interesting link that was included in the Digitalbits page, just for easy reference:
metropolis footage found
Now, where is the lost footage of "Metropolis" with Judy Kuhn and not her understudy!
THAT I wanna see!

They may consider having the lost footage on a special feature that can be branched with the standard restored film. That wouldn't require as much restoration. But you may be right. It may be a long time before we see it on Blu-ray. It's taking a long time to see a lot of great films on Blu-ray. So many films released on Blu-ray right now are pure crap. It seems a shame to waste a good format on such bad films.

It'll be ready by the 2027 special edition!
It's official! from The Digital Bits...
"We've just heard back from our friends over at Kino International. The good news is that they have officially confirmed that the newly-discovered footage from Fritz Lang's original version of Metropolis WILL be a part of the forthcoming special edition Blu-ray Disc release in 2009. What's more, the new special edition will be released on standard DVD format as well on the same day."
