iT's been so long since last season, pls someone update me. I forgot a lot of the plot,...who's those British dudes?
The opening sequence is classic soap opera: reconstructed recall. Flashback to reveal backstory knowledge the character has but the audience does not. (Don's childhood -- no more spoilers here.)
The Brits bought the agency and now control its future direction. "Globalization", or sort of, before the fact.
The London Fog account is brilliantly employed in this episode.
And watch for the "hot" night in the hotel. Those concerned about Sal's backdoor status in the story will not be disappointed.
I said WTF to the last scene too.
I haven't seen a single episode before tonight, but I'm glad I tuned in when I did, because based on what I know of the show, I was really hoping that (spoilers omitted) he would finally get to consummate what it is he really wants, in a manner of speaking.
The ultimate baby boomer show...soooo brilliant in every way, especially art direction. The one time I'm glad that I'm "older". lol. That first scene was Don's mother, right?, and the baby that the midwife brought her later on, Don's older brother who died in last year's (plot)? What the heck was the backstory of Don's mother, father, stepmother, etc? Forgot? Have the DVD's, but too lazy to watch all of them now.
Well, whether you're gay or not, that WAS a cool, fantastic emotionally wretching scene (Sal, in the hotel room). And Don's Q to him on the airplane back.. Now, THAT's acting! ALL subtext.

Pretty great season premiere. Delivered in every aspect!
This is random, but did anyone else notice that the kid playing Bobby changed? I don't know why but I ALWAYS notice these things.
Season 3 is off to a great start! Terrific writing, acting, wardrobe, production design - in fact amazing all around.
Tiny Magic, the baby was Don aka Dick Whitman. His mother was a prostitute and his step mother resented him for it. She raised Dick/Don when his father died.
Oh, thanks, XXnewgirl,...now i remember! (why, oh why, soooo long between seasons????)
Not to discredit the actors (who I think across the board on this show are pretty great) but credit for that airplane scene with Don and Sal must be given to the writers...so brilliant.
And I noticed the change in Bobby too. It seems as though they aged him as well so I was half expecting Sally to be a teenager when she came in, but it was the same girl whose always played her.
Did anyone else find it a little distracting that the guy who played the annoying British male secretary looked so much like Pete Campbell?
All in all, I thought it was a great episode. I just love that Don Draper, even though he's such a cheating b*stard.
Absolutely, the resemblence confused me. (But: Will he be Sal's secret love?)
Auggie, I thought the very same thing!!
My jaw dropped to the floor after Don tapped on the window of Sal's hotel room. I had to rewind it to look at both of their faces during that part, particularly Don's. It was..amazing.
I too, with the British secretary. I thought the old Pete had been fired or something, but then the new guy started talking. What a douche.
I love that the new seasons of this show starts months after the last episode of the previous season. Obviously Duck's scheme didn't work out and Pete was never promoted.
I'm looking forward to this new season very much. Also, tinymagic, I only got into this show because of your high praise for it, so thank you.
Also, early this morning, I turned my TV on, Morning Joe just came on, and apparently Joe Scarborough is obsessed with the show. It might be the only thing he and I have in common.
