To me, Bice and Carrie are the more versatile talents, who take the stage with confidence and unmatched professionalism -- but this contest is seldom about those factors alone. Mikalah is this seasons's -- whatever that girl from Hawaii was last time. She seems to have a voting block, and every week it's hard to fathom that she is among the best.
Does anyone else find it harder and harder to get excited about so many 'covers' of songs that we know too well? The men who do Stevie Wonder material, for instance -- even if they match Wonder's phrasing and vocals, there's something so predictable and un-enthralling about all these covers. That aspect alone gives it the 'cruise ship' sound that Simon bemoans. Whenever someone selects something slightly more obscure, I just ... listen.
