Do you believe President Bush's actions justify impeachment?

Yes, between the secret spying, the deceptions leading to war and more, there is plenty to justify putting him on trial.
4.4%
No, like any president, he has made a few missteps, but nothing approaching "high crimes and misdemeanors."
6%
No, the man has done absolutely nothing wrong. Impeachment would just be a political lynching.
1.9%
I don't know.
Go Vote!

And were he to be impeached, who would we have?
Dick Cheney.
Are you *sure* you want to go there?

Not true. He'd have to be convicted by the Senate after impeachment by the House, which would probably take the remainder of the administration.

re: MSNBC Poll: SHOULD BUSH BE IMPEACHED#9
Posted: 5/22/07 at 9:46amOh, it's never too late for a good impeachment!
re: MSNBC Poll: SHOULD BUSH BE IMPEACHED#10
Posted: 5/22/07 at 9:57amPalJoey - lol - it would certainly fill in the arid wastes until next season on TV. But we are already completely stuck in a huge range of problems (war, gasoline dependency, immigration) that he has created or allowed to worsen for six years. We should have impeached him at the polls in 2004.

Interesting Salon.com article--and some pretty heated reader letters--on why America will never impeach Bush.
Impeachment?

What makes me so frustrated about this whole situation is that Clinton was impeached for having oral sex and lying about it. But Bush starts a war, or exacerbates an already existent one, under false pretenses and shows no remorse over the fact that it's become a complete mess, but he doesn't get impeached.
I DO NOT GET IT.
re: MSNBC Poll: SHOULD BUSH BE IMPEACHED#13
Posted: 5/22/07 at 10:38amBecause prior to November, we had a rubber-stamp congress, and the current one is too busy trying to fix the mess.
re: MSNBC Poll: SHOULD BUSH BE IMPEACHED#14
Posted: 5/22/07 at 10:41amI did have that thought. That doesn't really make it any less frustrating.

So Jimmy Carter's recanted comments were not "careless" (shame on you, Jimmy) but part of mainstream America.
I still like the old bumbersticker on Clinton, which many chanted at the 2005 anti-war rally in DC: "When He Lied, No One Died."

The Salon article makes sense. Impeachment could backfire and feel like a witch hunt to the general public, which might generate sympathy for Bush and the Republicans. Heaven forbid!
At this point, I still prefer Impeachment Chatter, like this unofficial poll, to an actual impeachment.
Polls like this validate and consolidate anti-Bush feeling, which gives the Democrats more power and gives the country a more solid possibility for change. It also empowers the media to spurn Karl Rove's spin and report what's really going on in terms of Republican corruption and disregard for constitutional law, which in turn helps wean the country from suckling at the Republican teat.

Unfortunately, impeachment would leave us with Cheney, who I fear might have a tendency to nuke'em, especially since it would probably put money in his and his pals' pockets.
But I voted yes anyways...it's MSNBC, broadcasting home to a lot of conservatives.

But for the record, if impeachment and conviction should come, I wouldn't at all mind a neutered Cheney.

"I wouldn't mind a neutered Cheney."
But enough about Mary...
I think PJ is right: politically the impeachment sentiment works better as sentiment--I also think it sets a bad precedent--thought he precedent was set by the Clinton congress--they impeached for little reason, lowering the standard and creating political backlash.
Bush DESERVES to be impeached and (I believe) tried for treason, but I don't want to start a fight that will never end either.

Posted: 5/22/07 at 5:01pmMy hope is that he stay's in office making things a total mess..more than it is now. Then the Democrats can take the next election and add more House/Senate seats. Then send Bush to Guantanamo for war crimes no trail no lawyer.
