Here's an article with a theory that--to this complete aeronautics layman--seems compelling:

The author posits that the MH370 pilot turned off his transponder equipment and then flew over those regions which everyone agrees are "bristling" with radar equipment in the shadow of another plane, thus enabling him to land in Turkmenistan or somewhere like that.

The pilot suicide theory is starting to gain traction as hearing it mentioned more and more.

^If such is the case, why not crash the plane immediately as opposed to just flying around for hours?

The suicide idea is a non-starter. The pilot was 53 years old, happily married, successful and respected in his career. There is no indication at all of suicide. Also, if a pilot were committing suicide with a plane, there would a crash and debris.

Israeli intelligence sources suspect Iran of hijacking the plane and landing it outside of any other country's radar and planning on loading it up with nuclear material and using it for a terror attack on Israel.

(Of course, Iran probably thinks the same about Israel...)

The pilot did not want the plane found. One theory for this is the beneficiary on his insurance could not collect if they found the plane had been deliberately crashed as opposed to mechanical failure. If they cannot find the plane, they have to pay insurance claims.

The pilot had a flight simulator in his house. He had known ties to an Islamic radical

Those "ties" were reported in a British tabloid. It has not been verified or reported by any major news outlets.

By the way, one thing I love about CNN: they use their resources. Have taken residence at a 777 flight training center in Canada to test out many of the speculated theories each day. The latest report is that the airplane descended from 23,000 ft to under 5,000 ft (to avoid radars) and then it quietly leveled off. Only problem with that when recreated in a 777 simulator? The plane begins to fall apart as it's not built for that kind of rapid decent or altitude and cabin pressure completely bottoms out.

...And now I'm seeing the airline is suggesting that an assertion from the Malaysian government about its communication system (the ACAR) being shut off "may not" be true. This is a cluster f*ck.

The flight simulator indicates nothing.

The Islamic "radical" he supports is not a radical at all--he's the opposition leader in Malaysia and his comments as reported in the Wikipedia page go back and forth the way politicians often do to cover their tracks. Bottom line: He supports the security of the State of Israel as well as the rights of the Palestinian people to a two-state solution, identical positions to the ruling party in Indonesia and the United Nations.

But those are the positions of the politician he supports, not necessarily the pilot himself.

Suicide is a red herring. It's equipment failure or terrorism.

"Suicide is a red herring. It's equipment failure or terrorism."

This seems correct.

Furthermore--if it's terrorism, it's some kind of crazy/brilliant, Time-Release, Slow-Motion Terrorism.

Let's pretend [hope] that the plane has landed somewhere-what is happening with all the passengers, feeding them, individual medical problems, the young[babies?]?. It's one thing to hi-jack a plane but then is everyone just killed when landed?

IF we are to believe the Malaysian government (why would we? they're usually inaccurate), though, the airplane had climbed to 45,000 feet. Cabin pressure at 45,000 feet in a 777 would completely drop out and the masks would come down. From there, the passengers and crew would only have about 15 to 30 minutes of oxygen with the masks. Once that supply ran out they would have perished. The pilots have their own oxygen supply that can last hours, however. It is one of those crazy theories out there but always within the realm of possibility. This is one theory that explains how the pilots could have effectively killed all of the passengers without ever leaving their cockpit.

From the New Yorker:

NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report)—CNN apologized to its viewers today for briefly airing a story on Sunday that had nothing to do with the missing Malaysia Airlines flight.

The story, which caused thousands of viewers to contact the network in anger, had something to do with Crimea, Ukraine, and Russia.

In the official apology, CNN chief Jeff Zucker wrote, “On Sunday, we briefly cut away from our nonstop coverage of Flight 370 to talk about something else. We’re not going to sugarcoat it: we messed up. CNN regrets the error and promises our viewers that it won’t happen again.”

Don't read if you have nightmares of weaponized airlines capable of destroying an emntire city.

Also refrain from reading that if you don't want to feed the wildly absurd speculation without any hard evidence to back it up. It's quite easy to conjecture and speculate doom-and-gloom theories to simply garner clicks. But it's just as possible the plane did crash in the Indian Ocean. He's far too confident ruling out other possibilities that it discredits his entire blog post.

"Do we as a peace-loving people have the foresight and will to actively shoot down an airliner when it re-appears?"

Which "we" is he talking about? The US Air Force EXISTS to shoot down things.

I think the scenario he's envisioning is that the plane reappears and a message is sent saying "The passengers are alive and well on board this plane."

He's asking if the US military would shoot the plane down on sight and ask questions later.

Addy. That "experienced" pilot who wrote the blog post sounds absolutely paranoid who would rather feed the frenzy. Reminds me of someone else on this thread.

Do not give in, Addy. Don't let it bother you. That's the whole point of the blog post. Nothing more. It is complete absurdity and I'm not surprised PJ - an avid reader and sharer of the New York Post - linked to it.

It is a poorly written blog post that was created simply to feed the frenzy and generate clicks. If you can't see that, I don't know what to say.
