Perhaps. I won't claim insight into the motivation of some un-known (to me) blog-poster. And you surely won't provoke a fight with me by criticizing the blog's writing style and syntax--although poor writing surely does not guarantee inaccuracy, unless the blog in question is a prose style guide.
My objection is to using this--or, frankly, any thread--for gratuitous, drive-by shots at other posters.
When, oh when, will people learn that being disrespectful reflects so much more upon themselves than on their intended targets?

"Some of the information released by the Malaysian government and airline turns out to be true, some turns out to be false," said Nan Jinyan, a woman from Shanghai whose brother-in-law was aboard the flight. "I believe they are still deciding which information to release and which isn't convenient to release right now."
I really don't think it's a matter of "convenience". No one seems to know what exactly is going on and it wouldn't surprise me if they were trying to play things close to the vest. I really feel for the families right now and I understand their anger. But going on hunger strikes and what not don't help anything. You cannot be told what is not known.
China needs to chill a bit here. This event has caused international fear and international cooperation. I doubt anyone is trying to freeze China out and there's not really a lot of need to put pressure on any one government. There are a lot of Chinese citizens on that flight and they want to protect their own interests. Which is understandable but people are more important than national pride.
The longer this mystery goes on the more crazy people are going to get. Perhaps that was the plan in the first place.

All of these theories!
This one seems to make some sense to me...
Perhaps this sensible theory?
#53Malaysia Airlines Articles
Posted: 3/18/14 at 10:59amOnly monkeywrench in that theory is that no debris has been found. When a plane crashes, debris is found, even if the plane goes deep into the Indian Ocean. (The Air France flight to Brazil is a case in point-it took 2 days, but debris was found and so was the plane.) There is more to this I think. While I'd like to believe this theory, I'm not convinced (and I have a dad who's an aeronautical engineer).

Good points...
It's just unbelievable. And yet, it's real.

Erik,
In response to programing a change in flight path... This was discussed extensively on MSNBC last night and as someone who knows several commercial pilots, I can say I have previous knowledge. Policy varies from airline to airline and practice from pilot to pilot, but it is very common for a flight to have several secondary flight paths programmed in before take off - alternate routes and/or destinations. In the event of an emergency or unforeseen circumstance, the pilot / copilot merely have to push a few buttons to change course to the alternate flight path, freeing them up to multitask in a way that allows them to better deal with whatever emergency has come up on board, f it fact that it is the case.

Headband, we don't know how it happened in the cockpit. There may not have been cause for them to issue a mayday. We do not know the sequence of events. But it is not unheard of for a pilot to program an alternate in, based on surrounding, as a "just in case".
Does it raise a red flag? Yes, it warrants looking at.
Is it proof that the Pilots have devious intent and were planning to go off guard? Possible. But it is also equal proof that the Pilot was aware of the location in the air and was programming an alternate destination in the event an emergency happened. The newly programmed heading, as was pointed out in that Pilot's op-ed yesterday, would have put them in line heading toward one of the few airports with a runway able to handle that plane.
It is one more piece of a puzzle where we can't make out the picture, so this is not cause to jump one way or another unless we get a DEFINITIVE answer on the airlines policy and requirements for a Pilot programming alternate routes.

I havent seen a new report since I watched the coverage of this topic last night.
The reports I saw stated that the alternate flight path was programmed before the final communication, not that it had been EXECUTED.
I feel as though our wires are crossed in communication and we are sort of saying saying the same thing, but not.
I am saying that is not unordinary for an alternate flight path to be programmed. EXECUTING that program is a different matter and every report I saw said that it was programmed before final communication, executed after.
The idea is that you go through the process of programming an alternate route / destination when everything is safe and secure and IF something happens, the change can be executed with a few simple flicks of switches and minimal effort.

Are you not following the reports? It has been confirmed that the turn was starting to be made before their final communication...
I wouldn't say it was "confirmed." It's just being reported that unnamed sources and unnamed law-enforcement officials told reporters that. But no one has gone on record as "confirming" that.
No one is confirming it because, as broadwayguy2 keeps trying to tell you, it doesn't necessarily mean anything one way or another.
One should think twice before trying to position oneself as some sort of expert.

Haha. Thank you, PalJoey. I have to laugh at the exchange because the absolute last thing any person who knows me in even the slightest would ask me is "have you been following the reports / news?" One of my friends refers to me as their personal news ticker and asks me to clarify any news items that have become muddled in their brain.
I maintain that this exchange was a simple crossing of wires as semantics in the difference between programming and executing a flight path (very different things) in relation to the communication. It's simple to understand when it is explained to you, but the difference isn't something you would necessarily consider if you are unfamiliar with flying or if you are the heat of the moment / choosing a lead line tompull you into a news story.

CNN is reporting that "objects related to flight 370 possibly found".
The Australian PM is reporting that 'new and credible information has come to light'.
...from the 'breaking news report' on CNN. A potentially important development.

Which "mystery" is more interesting to you...
A. Amelia Earhart?
B. The Lindbergh Baby and subsequent trial?
c. Or Malaysia Airlines, (so far)?
d. Where is Jimmy Hoffa?

Tie between Earhart and Lindburgh.
Lindburgh because of how sensational it was, Earhart because it's still ongoing all these year later.
This airplane is fascinating, but it's mostly a daily soap opera now. I woll be fascinated if we never know if when we find out what did happen onboard.
Hoffa was offed by the mob and they are good at covering bases. Whats left? Dust?
