Today while buying something at the school bookstore, they were giving out razors...as like advertisements...
It says, "New Titanium Razor For Men."
Is there a difference that I am missing between a female and male razor?

I find that men's razors work better.

My dad accidently used one of my razors, because it's green [and his are green too, except mine has black on them too].
I think the men's razor tends to have sharper blades... but other than that, there's not really a difference.

Posted: 1/8/07 at 9:48pmI don't think that there's really a difference. They're just designed to psychologically appeal us differently. On men's razors you see lots of words like "titanium" and "mach," whereas women's use "care" or "venus."

Posted: 1/8/07 at 10:57pmWomen's tend to be curvier and pastel. I find that men's tend to give a closer shave. Then there is the Intuition. That has a razor blade in the middle of a bar of soap. The blade is set on a spring so that it should never be out longer than the soap when you press against the skin. That doesn't happen and you can cut the hell out of knees, ankles, anything curvy. They SUCK.

Ick...I tried the Intuition razor last year. Horrible! My skin was so painfully sore for days.
I actually prefer men's razors. I find they last a little longer.

I am so glad to see that there's a discussion about razors going on! I was just popping on to post a message begging for advice on shaving. I've recently been cast as a drag queen / gender illusionist in a new play in Central Florida and have been having a tough go of it as far as shaving is concerned. My skin is very sensitive and it seems that I can never get a close enough shave without cutting my face to pieces. I've tried all of the "sensitive skin" products and shaving in the shower / shaving in a steamy room, etc. but nothing has seemed to work thus far. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this permanent five o'clock shadow without slicing my skin to bits??
Thanks!

This may sound strange but, have you tried a used razor?
If someone in your family has a razor they've used for a while, it won't be as sharp and may not be as rough or your face.

Yeah, sweetie, I had that same idea and so used my husband's razor ... alas it was *too* dull and yanked the hairs instead of cutting them.
I guess my skin is just as fickle and finnicky as the rest of me.

There is a difference. Men's work better; ask any man that's tried to use a women's razor. Intuition is complete crap. I got a free one in the mail, so I tried it. Not only did it tear up my legs, but the blade rusted within a week.
Joshua, this may be a bit extreme, but have you tried Nair?

Yes, I tried Nair and had an allergic reaction to it. Is there a more mild, gentler, face-friendly version??
And, p.s., I'll definitely try the Aveeno.

Wow, I've had the absolute opposite reaction with Intuition. My left leg is really sensitive and gets bumps easily, and the Intuition works better because of the soap buffer than the other razors. I don't nick or bump with it. You just can't let it get down all the way in the front--that's when it nicks. Then again, I also use the razor blade they sell that is specifically for sensitive skin and I don't use the normal one.
That's really interesting to hear that so many people have had problems with it! It's the first that I *haven't* had problems with. {And they sell refills in Japan--it must be semi-decent if it's one of the few imported razors here...right?}
I guess this is another reason that I'm odd...
...And I probably jinked myself and will nick like crazy now, huh? ^.~

THe Intuition worked really well for me for awhile, and then I got a little more careless about it and ended up getting terrible razor burn every time I used it. I gave it up.
My mother used to buy men's razors sometimes and i've taken up doing the same thing. It doesn't really matter how pretty the razor is, and I think that they give a much better shave.

Posted: 1/9/07 at 8:20amJosh: I have sensitive skin as well, and I can't shave every day without ripping my face to shreds. I've found using "The Art of Shaving" products (Pre-Shave oil, Shaving Cream and After Shave Balm) and the Gillette Fusion razor gives me a very smooth, very close and nick-free shave. In addition, if you wash your face with a mild exfoliating product (I recommend Decleor Paris for Men) before you shave and moisturize a lot after, (also Decleor Paris for Men) it helps. I still can't shave every day, but at least when I do shave it's a closer and more comfortable experience.

Posted: 1/9/07 at 8:43amMy dermatologist recommended I use a wet/dry electric shaver. Mine is a Panasonic. I sometimes also have to use a razor after that for a very close shave, but find the damage to my skin to be minimal because I've used the wet/dry first.

Posted: 1/9/07 at 12:00pmJosh, it's not all about the shave, it's all about the makeup. One of the most beautiful drag queens I have ever seen would perform all night, then come out after her last number with her face washed and a five o'clock shadow. I suppose if you skin is that sensitive, that could be an issue, though.

I took a shower and used this new "mans" razor!
It worked and it didn't cut up my legs. I can't really say that it worked better/worse/differently than a female razor.
