I'm hoping they get a black, lesbian Jew in a wheelchair to sing it and sign at the same time.
That ought to kill off a few hundred thousand from shock alone.
Who would think we'd live in a country in the 21st century where Archie Bunker looked like a moderate conservative?

Simply unbelievable! I keep thinking the racists can't go any lower or get any nuttier.
And every time I am proven wrong.
Why shouldn't a Bangladeshi national sing the song? It calls on God to bless America. Why isn't that a worthy sentiment regardless of who sings it?

I'll throw in a controversial question here, though DEFINITELY not one endorsing racism or ignorance: Should performers who are neither U.S. citizens nor residents sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at a sporting event that only involves U.S. teams? (Ex: A Canadian singer, at a Yankees-Orioles game, as opposed to a Blue Jays-Orioles game.) The answer may depend on whether someone considers this a performance or a patriotic ceremony. If it's meant to be a patriotic ceremony, maybe the song should be led by someone with the same patriotic sentiments as the attendees. On the other hand, even if it's a patriotic ceremony, the Canadian singer can be viewed as showing respect for the United States and her people. As I said, the question is controversial, and has no right answer.
One thing that does annoy me, perhaps unreasonably, is when longstanding green card holders decide not to become citizens but insist on expressing disdain for those who hold views opposed to theirs on U.S. domestic political issues. I knew a Reagan-loving British fellow who never failed to dump on my liberal politics every time he saw me. I really wanted to snarl, "If the Republican party means so darned much to you, why don't you become a citizen so you can vote for it?"

I don't believe it should be that controversial or, if fact, is with most people. Regardless of the origin of the performer, it is a show of respect. If I could sing, which I can't, I would have no problem singing O'Canada or God Save the Queen as I have a deep respect for those countries and their people.
Also, I have no problem with anyone on our soil who have opinions different from mine regardless of their citizenship.
That is what this country is supposed to be about.
Racism is the one area where I draw the line. If we are about equality, then racism has no place here.

It's a song, not a Mass. Lots of performers have sung our anthems with no comment; someone above mentioned Celine Dion. Patti LuPone used to frequently sing "O Canada" at Rangers games.
This is about race pure and simple, it seems to me.

We need a good white person to restore the dignity to the anthem.
What about Rosanne?

You mean most white people object to racist pieces of SH*T like you, making it less fun for you to spew your filth?
How sad for you. How good for the world.
