"I love Ming-Na Wen (Dr. Chen!!) and was excited to see she was in this."
Last night was her best episode even though she's been great in every single episode. Her chemistry with Clark Gregg is excellent and I really liked the scene when she and the person with superpowers were in the hotel room.
I really enjoyed this week's ep. If the show keeps going Monster-of-the-Week like Fringe and X-Files before it, and they can come up with plots as creative and great like this week's, I can really get into it as my pulpy TV action serial.
Same here! I've been looking for a sci-fi show with good characters to fill the gap left by Fringe- looks like I may have found it.

What did anyone think of last night's episode? Felt it was one of, if not the, best so far, and definitely the most emotional. Fitz and Simmons sitting on opposite sides of the glass killed me- I didn't realize I cared about these characters so much until last night!
I thought it was great! "Im not calling you IRON MAN" haha.
Another week, another great episode, but unfortunately another little dip in the ratings. It's a shame, because I frankly think the episodes have been improving after a bit of a slow start (other than the excellent pilot).
I wouldn't say great, but by far the best episode of the bunch. Finally we seem to be getting into what Whedon's writing team does best in their tv shows. Now I just wonder if it can be sustained. I think most curious audiences have already lost interest though.
I enjoy it still but they need to get away from " a rookie goes on a dangerous mission and might die" storyline they have done 3 weeks in a row now.
Also. How about some divirsity! There is not one blonde in the cast and I don't recall even seeing any at all!
Hopfully Thor will show up and change that real soon!
You are mad about diversity because of...blondes?
Taryn, not really. its a joke. its a play on how we are always hearing that there is not enough of this type or too much of that type....
It is odd though that there are no blondes on the show. I cant recall another that doesnt have any
Except actual concerns about diversity are legitimate criticism of the overwhelming whiteness of American media -- which Marvel is, in fact, not great at.
Exactly. I supppose SHIELD is better than some, with Ming-Na Wen being Chinese-American and Chloe Bennet half-Chinese, but they still have had several villains-of-the-week played by minority actors. Whedon himself doesn't have the greatest track record with diversity either (although he does at least tend towards strong female characters); out of his major shows, I can only recall three series regulars (Zoe and Book on Firefly and Gunn on Angel) who were non-white.
Additionally regarding Whedon is the fact that Firefly is specifically give Chinese language built into its canon, yet there are no actors of Asian descent on the show. Come on, Whedon!!
Whedon can be great about some things, but then really ****ty about others. Or just about the same thing. He's really, really far from perfect.

I haven't seen last night's episode yet, but I am glad the ratings decline seems to have stopped for now.
TV Ratings Tuesday: 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' & 'Dads' Up, 'NCIS' & 'Person of Interest' Flat + 'Chicago Fire' Hits Low
Glad to see that! Last night's episode was fun and gave some good backstory on Ward, plus a nice little Thor tie-in twist.

^ When the final ratings were announced, they were adjusted up a tenth, which is even better to hear.
Tuesday Final Ratings: 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.', 'The Voice', 'The Biggest Loser' & 'David Blaine: Real or Magic' Adjusted Up

The last two episodes, which have revolved around Coulson and Sky's stories have been very good. I'm looking forward to tonight's episode.
They've been MUCH better, and tonight's was pretty good, but I wouldn't call them great yet--it's just that it's a huge improvement over early ones. There still are weird details that make no sense to me (I don't mean with the character mysteries, I mean details like a few weeks ago how easy it was for Skye to instantly find the super rich guy a few blocks away--details that I would think a show with Whedon's involvement would get right.)
And is ABC giving up and trying to kill the show? We skipped a month, had two new episodes, then two weeks off, now one episode and then it's off till March, skipping most of Sweeps??

I didn't get to see the episode until tonight because there was so much going on at my house yesterday. I literally wanted to go up to the TV and punch Quinn in the face. The episode was also cleverly written, especially when there was a gas made people think no time went by at all.
My major gripe AND I KNOW THIS IS A COMIC BOOK SHOW :P is how Mae's random parachute backwards escape landed her exactly where the others had been gassed...

They are not trying to kill the show, they are avoiding putting any first run episodes up against the Olympics. A lot of shows are off now until March.
Point taken, but I didn't know the games went till March 4.

The twists on the show just keep getting more and more unexpected. I never once would think that Agents Garrett and Ward would be part of Hydra. My jaw was on the floor throughout the episode.
I guessed Garrett, because it made a certain narrative sense -- Hand is the jerk you expect, Garrett is the one we like, so he's more surprising -- but I totally didn't guess Ward at all. I didn't expect them to pull someone from the actual main cast!
