I just saw the series premiere and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Clark Gregg has really nailed the role of Agent Coulson. I really like Ming-Na Wen too, but the strange thing is that if I close my eyes while she speaks I hear Mulan rather than her character Melinda May.

Well, Gregg should nail the role... he created the character and has played him in many of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.

I thought it was fine; the goodwill Marvel has built with its movies (and Joss Whedon has bought with his past TV shows) will keep me around for a few more weeks to see how it goes. This is perfectly fun B-level TV. If it grows to be anything better, I'll be pleasantly surprise. If it works like a lighter-toned FRINGE, I'll be perfectly happy to stick with when I have free time.

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

I agree with some of the critics the first assignment kind of seemed slow and average in a few scenes.

However, the other actors already seem like they've been doing this for a while and had great chemistry for a pilot episode.

I enjoyed it. It reminded me of NCIS, but with superheroes and superhero references. Granted, I don't watch the NCISes but if they had superheroes, I may have. It was good to see Cobie as Agent Hill, and I'm already intrigued about what non-Tahiti thing really did happen to Coulson.

And in classic Joss Whedon style, it was good to see old faces (Gunn! Book!)

I expected to like it more than I did. It's certainly not something I'm going to make a point to watch on a weekly basis, but it was light and enjoyable enough. Clark Gregg is so great at playing Coulson; he seems even more at ease in the role here than he did in the movies. So very charming and funny.

I really wanted to like this show and I kinda hated it. I wish they had a more compelling monster-of-the-week story or scrapped it altogether. I've also hated J August Richards since Angel so hopefully his time on the show is done. You never cared about the guy and I wanted him to die every time the scenes cut to him. Those scenes were also jarringly different in the way they were filmed and written.

The parts that Joss wrote were very obvious and also extremely different from the remainder of the episode. It seems like too many cooks ruined parts of the show.

The ONLY thing that got my attention about the show was the whole secret behind Coulson coming back to life. Maybe I'll tune in or maybe I'll just read spoilers.

No surprise, the show is a hit. It had an estimated 4.6 18-49 rating and was seen by 11.9 million viewers.

I really liked it. It's not reinventing the wheel but it works. It was entertaining and fun. I love Clarke Gregg and Ming-Na Wen. I'm definitel in!

I really enjoyed it, I have to say. As with pretty much any pilot, there's definitely room for improvement, but I think the bones of it are really something. I agree with ClydeBarrow that there seemed to be a bit of a disconnect between the bringing-the-new-Scooby Gang-together story and the hero/villain-of-the-week. Although I never hated JAR himself, just wasn't a big Gunn fan, mostly because I preferred Fred/Wesley. And speaking of potential couples, I definitely saw the established chemistry between Fitz and Simmons and the sparks between Skye and Ward- hoping they'll develop that more. Though, this being a Whedon show, who wants to start the betting on who dies first? :)
All in all, I think I'll stick with it for a while. Between the trademark Whedon dialogue, which I have loved for ages, and the really sharp chemistry between the cast, it's worth an hour of my week!

I love Ming-Na Wen (Dr. Chen!!) and was excited to see she was in this.

I enjoyed it a lot. Very fun and breezy; it knew exactly what it was it didn't try to be anything else.

Those ratings were insane! This could easily be the highest rated new show this fall.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

Kind of hated it, which made me incredibly sad, as I'm a huge Marvel geek and have been so psyched about it. I found so much of the dialogue to be awkward and stilted and the characters to be super generic. But, of course, it's a pilot, and plenty of shows have bumpy pilots. I'm certainly going to give it time to improve!

Anyone watch last night's episode? Not too bad, plus a bit more character development and an awesome cameo at the end! I'm seeing the believer/cynic dynamic developing between Ward and Skye, plus Fitz and Simmons getting a little more individualized (Fitz being more wary, Simmons more enthusiastic).
Ratings went down, which is to be expected with such a high debut, as well as Cote de Pablo's farewell NCIS last night.

I was finally able to watch it tonight and I thought it was great. I agree that there was a little bit more character development. The cameo at the end was very creative and funny.

Haven't watched it yet but Person of Interest is a show that I think does really well in the pulp-y, comic book-y, crime fighting procedural (It was created by Christopher Nolan's brother and creative partner, Jonathan Nolan). I figure anybody who likes this show will like it as well.

Hearing Fox is developing a series called Gotham makes me wonder if they will take from Greg Rucka and Ed Brubaker's Gotham Central, one of the best side-universe creations in DC comics. It would work exactly like I assume Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. does, in the crime fighting, problem solving of the non-superhero protagonists.

I'm very much enjoying this show, but I really love a lot of Marvel's stuff. Fitz and Simmons are hysterical, and I love me some Agent Coulson. Plus, Ward is pretty easy on the eyes, too.

I'm liking the show so far.

What's the deal with Agent Coulson? He died in The Avengers, came back to life in this, and apparently "can never find out the truth"...

There was no refernce to his situation (whatever it is) in episode 2.

Edit - just re-read this thread, and realized nobody seems to know what happened yet. I thought maybe it had been explained elsewhere in the Marvel universe, which I'm not entirely au fait with.

All shows NEED to put a moratorium on the starting an episode with a catastrophe and then the next scene is "XX Hours Earlier!"

Last night's episode was my favorite episode in the series so far. The plot and the characters are so cleverly written.

beautywickedlover: If I remember my comics lore, we may have just witnessed the origin of the show's first supervillain/Big Bad.

On another note- interesting backstories for Skye and especially Ward this week. I wasn't sure how much I'd like Ward at first (other than his very pretty face), but he's grown on me and is quickly becoming a much more complex character. And I desperately would love to see a flashback to the days when Fitz and Simmons met as students and became...whatever they are now.
