Is there anyone else here who is a fan of Matt Caplan's music or who loved him as Mark?

I'm pretty sure the opinion of Caplan on CB is the same as these boards, though - low.

Sorry, was just hoping to find someone who knew of any upcoming gigs of his, guess I was looking in the wrong place!

But just out of curiousity, why is everyone's opinion of Matt so poor?

I really don't know ! Most people say that he's been so long in RENT, that he was phoning in his performance and he was goofing up ! But when I saw him, about 3 years back, he was an incredible Mark and I really liked him !!!

I saw him last year, I think...and wasn't terribly impressed, though I think he has a good voice. My friend, however, saw him like, 3 years ago and absolutely LOVED him, so I think most people don't like him because he had been in the show so long that he's not giving consistent performances. One night he'll be great, the next he'll totally phone it in.

I love Matt, and I think I am probably his biggest supporter on these boards.

But his performance as Mark, not so much. I actually really enjoyed him back when he was first with the tour like 7 years ago, but I think he got really stale in the role....which happens when you play a part for that long.

But as an independent artist and musician, I am a huge fan. He is a gifted songwriter and delicious guitar player. I wish he was able to spend more time focusing on his own work....but, alas, those gigs don't pay the bills quite the way a stint on Broadway does.

Well, I have only seen RENT once, and therefore Matt was the only Mark I've seen, so I can't really compare his performance as Mark to anyone else! However, when I saw him I thought he was excellent-guess it was one of his better days!

I also love his music, voice, and guitar playing skills, and listen to his cd practically every day

If I get to see him perform his own music over the summer, I'll be a happy gal!

i've seen him multiple times as Mark, as well as many others, and i am definitely in the minority in really enjoying his performance... he certainly phoned it in during parts, but i also think that it works with the character...
