"For weeks, advisers close to the campaign said, McCain had wanted to name as his running mate his good friend Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, the Democrat turned independent. But by the end of last weekend, the outrage from Christian conservatives over the possibility that McCain would fill out the Republican ticket with Lieberman, a supporter of abortion rights, had become too intense to be ignored."
So "Maverick McCain" can't even stand up to his own supporters- how in the world could he stand up to America's enemies?
"Often my haste is a mistake, but I live with the consequences without complaint."

Joe,
I actually read somewhere (can't remember where exactly), that Rove asked Lieberman to remove his name from the running.

My sentiments exactly...as I've said elsewhere, he's bowing at the knee of the Christian conservatives and losing most of his credibility and my respect in the process.
Maverick, indeed...more like ass-kisser.

Posted: 9/2/08 at 12:32pmI mean really, who is Karl Rove anyway? Why does he have so much clout? Why wouldn't McCain stand up to him?

Posted: 9/2/08 at 1:35pmI am no fan of McCain's or Liebermen, but if McCain wanted Joe that's who he should have got. Even more evidence that McCain is NOT in charge of his own presidential run. Sad but typical.

Posted: 9/2/08 at 1:55pmThough I loathe Lieberman, I could respect McCain for choosing him because it would be his choice, not one forced on him by the right-wing of his party. It would actually play into the 'maverick' image they're trying so hard to resurrect.
