THE DAILY BEAST
Sex-Scandal Hypocrisy
by Meghan McCain
There is something so depressing, and at the same time predictably hypocritical, about the recent drunk-driving arrest of California State Senator Roy Ashburn that resulted in his confession that he is gay. The 55-year-old Republican and divorced father of two made the admission on a local radio show after he was arrested for driving under the influence, leaving a gay nightclub in Sacramento with an “unidentified man in the passenger seat of his state-owned vehicle.” Although Ashburn doesn’t plan on running for any public office after his term ends this year, he is not resigning from office...

How nice. It looks like Ms. McCain is actually taking some steps, rather than just using issue as a ticket to THE VIEW. Good for her. Let's hope it continues.
An interesting little piece. I can't agree with her that Ashburn's scandal is a setback for gay rights. It is a setback for pathetic Republican Closet Cases, yes, whose hypocrisy is suddenly laid bare.
i will not accept this!

She's taken a first step to getting some credibility in her status as a gay rights campaigner. She's got a ways to go, but a step is a step.
It is also interesting that she doesn't tell those gay politicians to stop voting in favor of anti-gay legislation, just to come out of the closet.
Second step (at least) for Meghan, first step for Roscoe?
Third for mankind?

First step for Meghan towards actually getting something like credibility, as opposed to just using the issue to grab some headlines and a spot on THE VIEW.

A photo op, nothing more. Evidently to others it is more than that, but not to me.
And her vocal support of the Trevor Project a second step?

I'm not really interested in counting steps. I'll say that I'm rather more impressed with today's little editorial than I am with her previous efforts, which struck me as being mere attention-grabbers. I hope she continues on in this fashion. And I hope that next time she calls out for those gay politicians who come out of the closet to actively vote against anti-gay legislation.
"I'm not really interested in counting steps."
Certainly not after you realized how wrong you were. Thank God you are not dictator of all things gay.

Ah, jerby, your demented fascination with me and all I post continues unabated, you obsessed stalking darling. You know you want me.
Nope, not quite enough evidence for me to say that I was wrong about Meghan M's commitment quite yet. That little essay is nice, but, again, she only called for gay politicians to come out of the closet, not for them to end their hypocritical support of anti-gay legislation.
But bully for her, nevertheless. Her continuing to go through the motions is admirable.
