One last bump from me for Margo.
When this thread started, I felt like most did that it was inevitable for him to get to play for a day - and probably sooner than later. Knowing his propensity for wanting to keep the light focussed elsewhere, I wondered how it would play out.
I want to thank him for being willing to share some thoughts today - even just a little bit about himself. I'm interested that people seemed to pick up on and respect his wishes, and the discussions were mostly about his views on theatre - and, as usual, we're all the better for it.
But I'm not surprised that he was shown that kind of respect - because I truly believe you get what you give - and respect is one of his defining characteristics.
So, thanks again for sitting still for just a moment to let us tell you how grateful we are for your membership in the community. Beyond the fact that the information you present is so invaluable, your on-line persona - even though shrouded in mystery - is one of genuine warmth, grace, style and substance. And as is obvious, you are well-regarded because of it.
I am on Weight Watchers right now, and I would sell my right kidney for a piece of white chocolate. Mmmmmm.......
Well, since everyone is asking questions, I have one. As you know, I LOVE Porgy and Bess. Do you think there will be another full broadway revival of it someday?
DG-I completely agree. He has always been one to answer anyone's questions, no matter how stupid it is, without making them feel horrible for asking it. His knowledge of the theatre world and his kindness to express it with us wee folk, is something that I am thankful for everytime I read a post by him. Margo, if there were more people like your bww.com persona in this world (I don't know you personally, so I have to go by this) we would truly be a better place. One last toast to a great person.

Spider - I'll be interested to hear what he says about this, as well.
For me, I want to know why producers aren't fighting themselves for the opportunity to do it with Audra and Stokes - I simply can't imagine it getting any better - and the clock isn't going backwards!
Sweet merciful Jesus, that would be an AMAZING combo. And since I won't be able to personally see it, they better make a cast album if this happens or there will be hell to pay.

Spider - having had the priveledge of one all too brief evening spent with Margo, I can tell you from even that limited experience that the reality is more than you could hope for
Audra and Stokes did highlights from P&B last summer at the Hollywood Bowl - and it was just enough to make you ache to see the whole thing - absolutely sublime. Doing 'highlights' simply didn't cut it!
Margo, thank you so much for sharing throughout your day. I feel as though I took a Theater History 301 class online!
Margo - I also want to thank you so much for participating in this little love fest. There are a couple of people here who know that I recognized the fact that you cherished your privacy and that this made me hesitate in choosing you. The last thing I wanted to do was make you feel pressed into sharing more than you wanted. The one thing I knew for certain - it would give all of us an opportunity to let you know how much you're appreciated here and that made it worthwhile.
Now comes the hard part for you. You must choose who the next BWW'er will be to wear the crown. Believe me - it isn't easy.

Mamie - something that kept going through my mind yesterday was, "Pity the fool who has to follow this - especially with YOU as a warm-up act!"
Too true sweetie! But then I felt that about so many others who have already been named and they've always come up with a winner. A lot are folks I've never talked to and knew nothing about until this thread started. Meeting them and learning about them has made this my favorite thread of all!

I adore Porgy, but I'm not sure a first class revival would really work in this financial climate. The show is simply too big (if done properly) to work on Broadway. The last revival in a Broadway house was in the 70s and had a cast in excess of 50. There was also a HUGE revival in the early 80s that played Radio City with a cast of over 100. It's a very expensive show.
BUT, the good news is that opera companies do it periodically. It's part of the Met repertoire and they can give it the kind of production that Broadway can't begin to attempt. Massive sets, an 80 piece orchestra and a cast of 150, they can give that masterpiece a truly first class production.
Anyway..............
Thank you to everyone for all the lovely sentiments. You've all been too kind and I truly appreciate it.
As for our next MBCotD, after much agonized thought, I've chosen one of the most passionate and heartfelt individuals on the board. He's also one of the smartest and funniest and I always love reading him.
Ladies and gentlemen, your BWW Celebrity of the Day is ...........
DG !!!!
Congratulations and enjoy it!
I KNEW it.
Swear to God, I KNEW that is who you would pick! I don't even know why...
Not that he doesn't deserve it - I raise my yogurt parfait and hazelnut coffee to DG!!

Margo--a superb choice! (And I would not have expected anything less. Thank you for being so gracious with us yesterday and always.)
DG.

It's my buddy!! I love it!
Congrats, DG!
To quote Liam (whoever thought I'd do that?):
"Never forget all the good that DGrant did for BWW"
First question - when in hell do you sleep? I see you on in the late. late night (early am on the east coast) and you're here bright and early to greet us in the morning.
Congrats DG!
Oh, and a belated, but heartfelt, congrats to DayDreamer, Dottie, Mamie and Margo. I haven’t been around much this week, but I’ve enjoyed reading all of your responses. This thread rocks!
I'm blushing - I just saw DG's warm up act comment. He's so incredibly nice, not to mention smart and sophisticated, and wise, and ..... a perfect follow up to MargoChanning! I couldn't be happier!
OK DG - questions. When did the Penguin thing start and have you ever traveled to the Arctic to see them in the wild?
Cheers Margo! Thank you for making my day even brighter by selecting DG. I begin many of my mornings with him being my first human contact (albeit virtual). He makes the pain of a 6 a.m. work start bearable! Of all of the people I have interacted with here on BWW, D is the one I most feel connected to in mind and spirit. I think we scare each other sometimes. I adore him and can't wait to hear more from him throughout the weekend.

YEA DG !!!! And you will wear the crown for the whole weekend. Can't wait for the questions !!! You are so deserving of this title.
I can't believe I didn't get around to posting on Margo's day. Seriously, one of the most informative and articulate posters I have ever seen on a message board. Truly deserved.
Now...on to DG!
DG is right up there. I always enjoy his posts, wit and charm. Raises a glass to DG!
Question...one that Margo never answered.
If you could interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be and what questions would you ask?
I had two people in mind that I thought Margo would choose. DG was one of them. Great choice, Margo!
Congrats, DG! Have fun!

DG:
What was the first thought that came into your mind when you saw you had been named Celebrity of the Day (in your case "weekend")?
If you could have any magical power, what would it be and why?
If you could have any singer croon to you, who would it be and what song would they perform?
How did you stumble across Broadwayworld--and how long did it take you to find and post on the Off Topic board.

1. Oh, sh . . .
2. Margo only did this because I referred to the person following him as a fool.
3. All you can do is respond as best you can, be gracious, be loving (and passionate, apparently) - and be thankful that no one can actually see you squirm.
