Congratulations, DG!
My questions:
What was the one Broadway show (before your time) that you wish you could have seen?

First question - when in hell do you sleep? I see you on in the late. late night (early am on the east coast) and you're here bright and early to greet us in the morning.
Believe me, you’re not the first to notice this! I only sleep a couple of hours at a time – VERY rarely more than four. So I’m basically up and down all through the day and night. Fortunately, my life circumstances allow for that privilege.
When did the Penguin thing start and have you ever traveled to the Arctic to see them in the wild?
First thing, as penguins only exist in the Southern Hemisphere, it would actually be the Antarctic And the truth is, my love has always been about the Emperors – and the other 16 species have just been sort of ‘adopted’ as really likable cousins.
I was introduced to the Emperors by reading about them when I was a child, and instantly fell in love with their social structure. What really drew me to them was their real commitment to taking care of each other as a group, and the males sharing in the child-rearing process. Anyone who saw MARCH OF THE PENGUINS got to see pretty much what I’ve always loved – a movie, by the way, that I am convinced was made especially for me!
I haven’t ever seen them in Antarctica (I’m afraid I would leap off the boat and instantly freeze to death!) BUT, over the Christmas holidays, I was able to go into the penguin enclosure at Sea-World in San Diego and actually pet and play with them. It was one of the highlights of my life – truly something I never thought I would have the opportunity to do.
Congratulations on your day DG, thanks for making interesting posts. My question is always about art-do you have any on your walls, and what is your favorite art?

If you could interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be and what questions would you ask?
As interesting as many from the past would be (Jesus, Beethoven, Thoreau, Judy ), I¡¦d have to go with someone living to have it hopefully affect my life in the here and now. And as much as there are some I'd really like to get some explanations from (no comment), I'd have to go with who is currently my greatest living teacher - the Dalai Lama.
Basically, I'd just like to have a private lesson with him, focusing on how he views the world, and what help he could give someone like me who doesn't have his developed sense of peaceful perspective.
If you could have any magical power, what would it be and why?
The power to alleviate aggression in our species (and all its manifestations, especially guns,) because life inherently comes with a great number of fears and uncertainties without having to worry about physical harm from each other on top of it all.

Congrats DG! This was another one I was waiting for. You're def one of the BWWers who I don't chat w/ much but who I always viewed w/ respect and wanting to get to know better. Your heartfelt posts about BWW and the positives and the community it gets, and also your sweet PM reply to me when it was my One-year anniv. You very much understand the pleasures and positives of this kind of community, and certainly add to it. Enjoy your day!

Congrats DG!
You are someone who's posts I look forward to reading as they are always informative, educational, hysterical, and/or heartwarming.
My question is what was the first cast recording you bought?
Enjoy your weekend in the spotlight!

If you could have any singer croon to you, who would it be and what song would they perform?
kd lang – “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”
How did you stumble across Broadwayworld--and how long did it take you to find and post on the Off Topic board.
I actually found the site doing research for a NYC trip, and read the main board for nine months before joining because I didn’t feel I had anything to say until I actually saw some shows in NYC. I had found the off-topic before I actually joined, so knew how to access it and post – and once I did, that’s pretty much where I’ve stayed.
What was the one Broadway show (before your time) that you wish you could have seen?
This is an easy one – MY FAIR LADY, my favorite musical.
What is your favorite meal at home, DG? And your favorite meal while dining out?

Do you have any art on your walls, and what is your favorite art?
I do have some art around me in the home - mostly realistic interpretations of landscapes (although one very lovely California Impressionist oil from the early 1900's.) My favorite thing is an oil pastel of a petunia (a la O'Keefe) that a friend did for me while I was lying asleep in a park with her.
Overall, I gravitate more toward realism, even going so far as to show a predilection for painters with an illustrative background (Rockwell, Parrish.) Although, ultimately I¡¦m really drawn to watercolorists, with my favorites being Wyeth and Homer.
What was the first cast recording you bought?
Another easy one - it was A CHORUS LINE, which was also my first Broadway show ¡V and I still can sing every word and know every note on it

What is your favorite meal at home, DG? And your favorite meal while dining out?
Home – an enchilada casserole that my mother makes (which was always my request for my birthday dinner)
Out – A seafood feast, especially shellfish – topped off by crème brulee
Thanks for all the nice thoughts and celebrations (Elph, I love fireworks!)
You know, what no one has said about this yet is that it's a LOT of work!
Nothing comes free!
DG.. YOUR ALSO HUSSY OF THE DAY!
Who inspires you?
WONDERFUL question, BB. And DG - thank you so much for bringing back my favorite avatar!
Yes, this is work and you get no money - only the confirmation of love and admiration from those who have been chatting with you for a long time and the wonderful addition of new friends who are meeting you now for the first time!

Who inspires you?
You didn’t say living or dead, so I’ll keep it open!
From before, and number one, the Dalai Lama.
Martin Luther King
Helen Keller
Henry David Thoreau
Barbara Jordan
Harvey Milk
Ian McKellen
Martina Navratilova
Those are just a few ‘known’ people that sprang to mind.
Also – and really more importantly – anyone who overcomes what is seen as mental or physical challenges to live a happy life that gives them fulfillment and joy. I think people in general have a tendency to take their gifts for granted, and I am humbled by those who move beyond such limitations.
And one special mention for the man I choose to emulate in this lifetime – my mother’s father, the best man I’ve ever known.
And Mamie, that's better than ANYTHING money can buy! I'm not really big on money anyway.

DG, Congratulations.
Thank you for those lovely and heartfelt answers!
I wish you a day of beautiful sunrises, pretty pink tea parties, Hugh by the pool, and lots of randy laughter!
I would try to wax poetic about how special your presence is both on and off the board, but... words would fail me.
Sending you hugs! You are truly deserving of this celebration! Enjoy it!
Wow... Congrats DG. You are truly a special person, your demeanor and attitude are a true inpiration.
I raise a glass of scotch for you... even though I can't drink the stuff.
