Michael Moore -Have y'all seen this?

Hey Mr. Roxy. Could you please point out exactly where Mr. Moore referred to the Iraqi insurgents as minutemen? I didn't see that in the posted article. I only ask this because you once incorrectly posted that Mr. Moore referred to the victims on the hijacked planes of 9/11 as "cowards" and the terrorists as "heroes". Just don't want to see you make the same unfortunate mistake twice.
And I don't really see this as Michael Moore shamelessly plugging himself or his movie. The article posted was found on his website, to my knowledge not anywhere else. So basically the only people seeing are people who visit his website. I think it's more his response to the adds placed in the various newspapers he mentions. The full page Variety add sounds a little more extreme and shameless to me.

oh, erik, dearie dear, while the comment that was reported in the london independent was not exactly calling them cowards, it was damn close and quite repulsive. check out the second to last paragraph. i can't get the independent article as it's a pay to play article now.

as far as the minutemen comment, 5th paragraph.

Posted: 12/9/04 at 11:00pmWell at least somebody answered me! As for the coward comment...I remember an article (which for the life of me I can't find right now..damn you Papa!) where Moore denied ever saying anything like that. The fact is, he lost a close personal friend on the flight that crashed into the Pentagon. But you can bet I'll keep searching for the article Pops. By the way...I love your holiday icon!

The defense rests
To Erik. I was watching ER & my life does not revolve around immediately answering you. Hopefully, Mr Mambo has given you the info you need. Will you agree he is scum or still defend him ? Somehow, I feel it will be the latter. If you like him, great. He is a legend in his own mind. Me, I have no use for the pompus windbag

i'm really surprised at how much people don't like Mr. Moore....calling him a communist as though that were some sort of 1950s insult?
If you'd gone to the award site and voted, you'd see The Passion is nominated as well....
I agree with Moore that it IS a very telling sign that a film like F9/11 would receive a nomination because it is a documentary and a film that was not seen by a large prtion of the country due to limited release, theatres abnning it, etc...
The type of films that usually get nominated are the "Shrek", "Pretty Woman" type of movies that are mainstream to say the least....
I'm a little surprised that an arts site would be so laden with conservative folks....

laden with conservative folks?
lol, dude, you just hit a thread with two of them. there's relatively few, trust me.
however, it's nice to know that it's "surprising" to find conservatives here at an arts site rather than at the klan website.

I'm sorry, I couldn't post, because I was off posting on the Klan forum. What was happening here? Who?
Ah yes.
Moore is clump of rotten sausage in the sewer drain behind your local Pizza Hut, festering with maggots and spores. He eats children, I've heard. If he can find the time between spitting on homeless people and beating grannies.

I'm surprised he doesn't get along with George W. then, since they have so much in common and all.
And it's silly to think conservatives wouldn't be found on an arts website. Everyone knows conservatives like art...just not controversial art. Like things that involve urine or Jesus...or umm...Janet's boob.

ckeaton, don't forget he kicks dogs.
"Like things that involve urine or Jesus...or umm...Janet's boob."
Janet's boob was not art. It is not art to show a man attempting to rip the shirt off a woman. This happened in Central Park a few years ago and it was considered crime.
#36mickey's mores
Posted: 12/10/04 at 10:28amThe boob comment was meant to be sarcastic Goth...although Janet has put a lot of effort into her boob..so she might argue with you that it's not art.

You say po-TAYE-to, I say po-TAH-to.
Hey, if Moore is your poster child, so be it. A wealthy, whining, over-eater with a sour attitude and a penchant for attacking unsuspecting people... that's fine by me.
They day he does something anonymously for the "good" of his cause is the day that I will suggest that he's not a fame-grabbing whore.

The funny thing is that I do not for one second believe that papa and ckeaton (and those who I've blocked) had any opinion or at least as strong an opinion about Moore before he attacked your beloved Dubya.
Oh, I'm sure you will claim that you did, but I ain't buying it.

My record speaks for itself.
While I was comptroller of Syracuse University's Student Government, I successfully blocked count 'em 4 (four) budget requests from various ultra-liberal student groups to bring Mr. Moore to campus to show 'Roger & Me' and then give a lecture.
The basis at the time, limited appeal. Barely anyone knew who he was. Also none of the organzations trying to bring him had any credibilty. They were tiny groups with lots of passion but no organization, like the Student Environmental Action Coalition.
I hated the bastard at the time, for his tactics and persona. Not his politics.

jrb has me blocked so I'll address this to all the others who have tolerance for free speech and opposing ideas.
I really hate "in your face" journalism and the arrogance it breeds, of which MM is only one of many. For those of you who live in NYC, it's the type of journalism "Help Me Howard" practices on Channel 11. The idea that a journalist can stick a camera in someone's face and demand they talk doesn't appeal to me. If the subject tries to push the camera away the journalist threatens to have the person thrown in jail and sued. I don't agree with that on any level.
Additionally, I believe that the Democratic Party was wrong to thrust Moore up front at their convention. To give him a seat next to Jimmy Carter diminishes Mr. Carter's humanitarian efforts. I believe it was a desperate attempt by the Dems to appeal to a younger audience.

Yes, that is the exact reason I have disliked him for so many years. But this has been discussed before on the board. In terms of this people's choice deal... I believe that at least 50% of the people (*cough* red states *cough*) would NEVER vote for the 9/11 film. So, entertainment like Shrek who dems and repubs both can enjoy should win the PEOPLE'S Choice award.
